Baltic Sea Philharmonic—Nutcracker Reimagined | Concert Introduction

Snowflakes… Fairies… and an Orchestra in Motion

The Baltic Sea Philharmonic and Kristjan Järvi are completely reinventing the classical music concert experience. You’ll never think of an orchestra the same way again as everybody on stage behaves in completely unconventional ways. The players no longer sit behind music stands, but freely move about the stage dancing, improvising and interacting with each other, the conductor and the audience. Adding colourful lighting designs, choreography and technology turns the stage into an explosion of creative energy, and sets up a uniquely dynamic and unforgettable experience for the audience.

This visionary ensemble was established in 2008 as the brainchild of conductor, composer and producer Kristjan Järvi. He was looking for a more casual and welcoming approach to classical music and wanted to reach out to audiences of all ages. Järvi brings his infectious and electrifying energy to every performance, and he turns Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Nutcracker, one of the most beloved Christmas classics, into a magical experience. Music by Järvi, Grieg, Pärt and Elgar adds to a fun-filled concert experience suitable for the entire family.
