Meet the Eye | Exhibition Introduction

Au Yeung Ping-chi is a bamboo artist from Hong Kong, with over two decades of expertise in the unique craft and art form. He began conceptualising the "Meet the Eye" exhibition around 2019. Over the next two years, he crafted twelve large-scale bamboo artworks centred around the theme of "The Eye". These pieces reflect the thoughts and emotions he developed while observing the vivid tapestry of daily life in Hong Kong.

Departing from the traditional Chinese ritual of paper effigy craft, Au Yeung has intentionally removed the element of papier-mâché from his artwork, relying solely on bamboo splints as his medium. Each piece in "Meet the Eye" is an intricate three-dimensional structure, meticulously crafted with curves and lines. These spherical creations symbolise the eye and feature his unparalleled craftsmanship.
