The Kid (1950) Film Screening and Post-screening Talk
Bruce Lee started his acting career back in 1948 with debut performance in The Kid (1950) and In the Face of Demolition (1953). Bruce played a delinquent orphan in the The Kid pairing up with the more seasoned actor Yee Chau-shui creating an interesting contrast between the youth and the experienced. The film is noteworthy for its portrayal of innocence, demonstrating that even in a harsh and dangerous world, kindness can exist. An in-depth discussion on the film's casting, plot and historical background will be hosted by invited speakers Alice Fung and Sam Ho after the screening to share their stories and views on the filmmaking techniques of the 1950s, Bruce Lee’s early performance on screen as well as the social and cultural context of postwar Hong Kong.
