Inside Out: Harbor and the City|Introduction to co-creation art activities in Harbor City

Our bright smiles have been hidden behind face masks for too long. With Hong Kong will end the mask mandate from 1 March, Harbour City invites everyone to share your cheerful faces, especially for the kids growing up during the pandemic. Harbour City has initiated a group action of “Inside Out Project” created by French artist JR and will host a community art project – “Inside Out: Harbour and the City”. Hundreds of infectious smiley portraits will be on display at Harbour City for everyone to soak up the lively vibe in Hong Kong. Everyone is welcome to share your individual portrait with a captivating grin online from 1 to 19 March 2023; or take individual portrait onsite at Harbour City from 17 to 19 March to be part of this meaningful public art project.

The “Inside Out Project” is a global participatory art project created by the renowned French artist JR in 2011 after winning the TED prize in California. Through pasting people’s portraits around cities, communities around the world use public art to get their voices heard, addressing a range of topics like diversity and community. Almost 500,000 people spanning 148 countries and territories have participated in the Inside Out Project over the past decade, including notable projects of Panthéon in Paris and Tower Bridge in London.

Harbour City aims to spread happiness all around by showing Hong Kong people’s beaming faces after three years of pandemic, especially the adorable giggles from toddlers and pre-schoolers who have grown up masked. For this participatory project, Harbour City depends on your participation. Share your smile to brighten someone’s day!
After three years of the epidemic, Harbor City hopes to invite everyone, especially children who grew up wearing masks to participate in this art creation project. Redisplay our smiles to the world and spread happiness everywhere through the smiling faces of adults and children!

Your smile deserves to be seen by more people! Let's all take off our masks and capture happy expressions. Selected photos will be printed into large black and white posters for display in Harbor City. Some photos will be uploaded on the social platforms and websites of Harbor City and Inside Out Project.
Participation method:
- Online submission: From March 1st to 19th, 2023, participants can use their cameras or smartphones to take recent photos and upload them to the website.

- Please show your rich expressions
- Only personal photos are accepted and each person can only submit once. The photo must be a recent half-length photo. Portrait photos only.
- The photo should clearly show your face and eyes, please do not wear sunglasses. Please take photos against a light background.
- The photo must be larger than 1MB and the pixel must be at least 200dpi
- Do not display brand logos or promote branding in photos

About The Inside Out Project
The well-known French artist JR founded "Inside out Project" after winning the TED Award in 2011. Inspired by JR's classic large-scale street sticker works, this participatory art project invites individuals and people around the world to share their photos, and through the display of participants' large-scale black-and-white portraits in public places to express personal opinions artistically, it inspires communities around the world Follow and talk.
In the past ten years, more than 500,000 people from more than 148 countries have participated in the "Inside Out Project" participatory art project. Thanks to the support of the participants, the art project has traveled to all continents, launching more than 2,000 different projects on a variety of social topics, including feminism, racism, climate change, community, education, children's rights and art, etc. .
