About the event
Hong Kong Well-Wishing Festival 2023 Introduction

Hong Kong Wishing Festival, every year during the Lunar New Year, brings rich and lively festive activities to Hong Kong citizens, such as traditional treasure throwing, blessing lotus lanterns, and lighting up of thousands of families to celebrate the birth of a child, etc. Imagine that during the Chinese New Year holiday, it would be the best to be able to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the urban area, have a family trip to Lam Tsuen to celebrate the Universiade, and participate in the very local Lam Tsuen Wishing Festival.
Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees are two big banyan trees. The two trees are regarded as gods by the villagers of Lin Village, and incense candles are lit at their roots to pray for blessings and make wishes. They are called "Xiangzai Trees". Later, people also made treasures, wrote their names, dates of birth and wishes on them, attached Baijie talismans, noble guides and Luma clothes, etc., and tied them with heavy objects (stones were used in the early years, In recent years, it has been changed to orange), and then after making a wish to the tree after sincerely paying homage, throw it up the trunk. Villagers in Fangma Po Village, Tai Po made offerings to Tin Hau Temple during the Lunar New Year, and made a wish to the big tree outside the temple. They did not specify which tree was the wishing tree. Over time, the big banyan tree at the entrance of the village became a "wishing tree" .

Every New Year, many people like to go to Lam Tsuen to make a wish tree and throw treasures, and some citizens flock to Tin Hau Temple to pray for blessings and wish their homes a safe new year.
