HKTB “Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations” to Welcome 2023 Together with the World

Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), “Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations” will be held on 31 December night (New Year’s Eve) to welcome 2023 together with the world.

Exuberant cultural and sports performances by young performers for TV & online audience (No on-site audience)

• From 11.45pm on New Year's Eve

A succession of energetic young performers will stage an exuberant performance through live broadcast and online livestreaming to welcome the New Year, featuring internationally-acclaimed young pianist Niu Niu (Zhang Shengliang), multiple-time world champion Hong Kong Rope Skipping Club, and local taiko drumming group Gekko, which has previously performed in many large-scale international events. No on-site audience will be admitted.

Online and TV audience can get prepared for the countdown moments with a 3D animation celebrating the city’s diversity and dynamics as the short film hypes up the countdown ambience with rhythmic drumming, dancing fires and exciting music.

• From 11:59:30 on New Year's Eve

In the last 30 seconds of 2022, all heads will turn to Victoria Harbour as the harbour-facing façade of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) becomes a gigantic countdown clock once again this year, bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the New Year with the Hong Kong public.

Enhanced edition of A Symphony of Lights with pyrotechnic effects (the public can watch the display along Victoria Harbour)

• From 12:00pm, 1 January 2023

Enhanced edition of a 10-minute A Symphony of Lights will roll out as Hong Kong steps into the new year. Buildings and landmarks along the coastline of Victoria Harbour on Island side will put on a pyrotechnic display with dancing laser beams and dancing lights. Together with the colourfully lit Star Ferry fleet, Victoria Harbour will come to life in vibrant lights and music.

HKCEC will also display the texts of “2023” and a series of blessings to kick start the New Year and send our blessing to the world.

The Celebrations will be fully broadcast live on free local TV channels, as well as the website and social media platforms of HKTB. Viewers can also share the countdown moments in the comfort at home with friends and family.
