The journey begins at the Qing Dynasty Stone Fortress Park—a circular castle fortress built in 1874, constructed with granite and shell-lime mixture. The walls are still well-preserved. As a filming location for the movie “The Blizzard,” visitors can compare historical scenes from the film on-site and experience the military wisdom of a century-old coastal defense. Moving to the Xiaogongyuan Arcade Buildings, within the fan-shaped radial blocks, the Nansheng Department Store, completed in 1932, uses Baroque carved domes to tell the story of the prosperous overseas Chinese businessmen. The General Post Office Building, completed in 1922, features European-style arched windows and patterned tile floors, serving as a living specimen of Republican architectural aesthetics. The two are linked to form an urban historical axis of “Ming and Qing coastal defense → Republican commercial port,” allowing tourists to touch the 600-year evolution of Shantou among the bricks and tiles.
A Living Presentation of Intangible Cultural Heritage
The immersive intangible cultural heritage experience is the biggest highlight. The national intangible cultural heritage, Yingge Dance, breaks through the traditional viewing mode, allowing tourists to closely observe the dancers painting face masks of “Water Margin” characters and observe the dynamic changes of classic formations such as “Great Peng Spreading Wings” and “Double Dragons Going Out to Sea.” The dancers strike short sticks to create exciting rhythms. In the drumbeats and shouts, the “strong and courageous” spirit of the Chaoshan people rushes forward, and this on-site impact far exceeds watching on a screen. In addition, the Chaoshan History and Culture Expo Center (or Baihuajian Scenic Area) forms a “dynamic and static complement”—when open, you can decode the details of craftsmanship through static exhibits such as Chao embroidery and嵌瓷 (kàn cí, inlaid porcelain); when closed, it presents the diverse inclusiveness of Chaoshan culture with religious and natural landscapes.
A Three-Dimensional Tour of Mountain, Sea, and City Views

As a “mobile viewing platform on the water,” the cross-sea ferry captures both the modern high-rise buildings on the north bank and the lush mountains of the Queshi Scenic Area on the south bank within a 15-minute voyage.
