I really wanted to love this place, especially since my Hanoian friends recommended it. The start was great: friendly faces, a cool drink, and a fast check-in. But once we got to our 6th floor Deluxe room, the disappointment set in. I paid extra for the deluxe valley view, expecting to lounge on the patio at sunset. Instead, the patio was a tiny, iron barred cage.
A few other things missed the mark: the fridge was off or broken (warm beer is a sad sight after a 7-hour drive), and they have a rigid policy of fining guests 2 million VND for outside food or drinks. The included breakfast was a mix of Asian/Western cuisine and offered lots of varieties including vegetarian options. The staff are the real stars here, they are wonderful and go out of their way to help, but the hotel management needs to rethink their "5-star" experience. Save your money and skip the Deluxe upgrade.
