Siena
Siena can be found in the lovely Tuscan hills just south of Florence. At its heart lies a fan-shaped central square called Piazza del Campo where several historic landmarks are located: the Gothic town hall, Palazzo Pubblico, and Torre del Mangia. Most of Siena's Gothic-style cathedral and palaces are built of brick made from the local red clay. The Piazza del Campo is also famous for the Palio di Siena, a horse race that is ritually held twice every year during the summer as a reflection of the rivalry and competition between the city wards since the medieval ages.
