Fantastic 5.0
The driver was very nice. We didn't know we'd pass a huge torii gate along the way, and she specifically pointed it out to us. Luckily, we made a detour to take photos; otherwise, we would have almost missed an interesting sight! 😆

We used 3 sightseeing passes: Kurashiki, Okayama Castle, and Okayama Ichibangai. We didn't use the Korakuen Garden pass because it was too hot to walk that day. For Kurashiki, remember to exchange your pass at the tourist information center to the right after exiting the station. For Okayama Castle, you can exchange your pass directly at the ticket counter and also use it for ice cream on the first floor. For the Ichibangai pass, you need to exchange it at the information desk. Using the pass at ABC Mart to buy shoes and getting two 3,000 yen discounts at once was a really great deal.

Fantastic 5.0
This historic castle, located in the heart of Okayama City, is also known as "Crow Castle." Its interior has been renovated into a museum, housing artifacts from the Sengoku period. From the top floor of the main keep, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the city, the moat, and Korakuen Garden.

Fantastic 5.0
The shop is not far from the riverside in Kurashiki, located on the second floor of a clothing store. The owner is very kind and attentive. Although she doesn't speak Chinese, we were able to communicate using Google Translate and simple English. All the kimonos in the shop are beautiful, and the owner's skillful hands can make your hairstyle look amazing. Considering the price and the results, I highly recommend it! It was very hot that day, and the owner thoughtfully lent us an umbrella, which we really appreciated.

What to know before visiting Okayama

What to expect from Okayama’s activities through the year

Okayama’s top bookings centre on attraction passes, followed by historical sites, tours and museums, with demand peaking in March and dipping around January. Expect a steady travel rhythm: bookings rise sharply into March and stay above average through late spring and early summer, then cool off in the autumn and winter months.

Best picks for families, couples and solo travellers

Families will find attraction passes a good fit — they bundle kid-friendly sights and make moving between attractions easier. Couples often enjoy the quieter, low-cost charm of historical sites and museums for relaxed, scenic days together. Solo travellers or small groups who want variety should consider tours, which offer the widest range of price and experience levels from budget to premium.

What travellers from the United States should book ahead

Most activities in Okayama can be left flexible and picked up a day or two before travel, though the most organised travellers still secure bookings in advance around the peak period. Booking ahead becomes more important in March when demand is noticeably higher and availability can tighten.

How the categories compare on price and who they suit

Historical sites are the easiest, lowest-cost way into Okayama’s attractions, a budget-friendly choice for casual visitors. Museums sit slightly above that entry level but remain generally inexpensive and appealing to culture-minded travellers. Tours are the priciest and show the widest spread of options, catering to people seeking specialised or premium experiences, while attraction passes offer mid-range convenience and value for those planning to visit multiple sights.
