Review for: Elefin Farm and Muang Mai Market Visit

We enjoyed this tour. Vicky spoke English really well and the driver was a polite young man. The elephants were well behaved. It was very interesting to see the personalities and dynamics amongst the elephants and with their minders. A baby elephant ran a couple of times towards his mum for a cuddle, while she was posing with guests for photos. The minder would run after the baby, telling him to return. Very funny to watch. Cafe was pleasant to sit down at and enjoy a drink. We paid extra for the yummy shrimp spring rolls and chicken nuggets. Our son tried durian for the first time at the fruit market. He thought the taste was “interesting”. 🤣

Pick up timing was a half hour window (8:30 - 9am), so you may end up wondering if the driver had come and left, or still otw, like what we experienced. Hiccups aside, the drive to the Elephant Farm was scenic and smooth. Highlight was definitely feeding the elephants who are smart to know what they want/ didn't want from your basket of sugar cane and bananas. Will be on a platform while the elephants are below so you feel safe. Can only feed from the platform too and not the side where the fences are. Trainers are kind enough to help with getting the elephant in place for photo taking if you don't want to pay to wear the outfit and take with mountain backdrop. Package includes a drink (100 baht) which can either be used at the cafe in the farm, or at the next location which is the fruits market. Stayed at the farm for around 1.5 hours. Fruit market has a lot of different tropical fruits to purchase, either packed or individual pieces. Good luck haggling!

The driver arrived at the hotel lobby earlier than scheduled and contacted us directly via WhatsApp. The drive from the Nimman area to the sanctuary wasn't too far, but we happened to visit during Chiang Mai's rainy season, and it poured once we got up the mountain. However, the driver was very polite and waited for us to get ready. After a brief discussion, he refunded the cost of the complimentary drinks in cash and continued to wait while we finished our interaction with the elephants. The bananas and sugarcane provided for the elephants were quite fresh, and the staff were friendly to children and helped take photos. The dining area was clean and tidy. There weren't too many people at the sanctuary, probably fewer than 20.

Tour participants were able to take photos and interact with the elephants up close, receiving more comprehensive service than general visitors. The staff were also very kind. It was a great experience with good cost performance and efficiency.

A van picked us up from the hotel at 8.35am and stopped over at a few different hotels for passengers. The journey was smooth initially but bumpy at the hilly roads. We arrived around 10am and were briefed about what to do, given a basket of sugar cane and banana, and 100 baht each, where we eventually spent buying drinks (price 85-120 baht). We fed the elephants and took pictures closed up. The elephants seem to prefer sugar cane over banana. The powerful sound of the elephant crunching the sugar cane was delightful. After spending 1.5 hours there, enjoying the scenery and (translucent?) toilet, we went to the fruit market. Though i saw in on of the review they went to the sticky waterfall, that did not happen to us, probably they have a different package. The market offered a lot of fruits and huge durians. Unfortunately we could not hog the whole lot, so we ended up drinking the sweet and juicy coconut water. We arrived at the hotel around 1.30pm.
