What to expect
This small group tour, led by a sumo expert, offers an in-depth introduction to sumo, covering its 1600-year history and culture. The tour includes a walking exploration of Ryogoku, the heart of sumo town, where you'll visit sumo landmarks and stables (from outside) while learning about wrestlers' lifestyles. It also features lunch at a top chanko-nabe restaurant, showcasing the nutrient-rich hot-pot dish central to wrestlers’ diets. Beyond sumo, the tour highlights Japanese culture, including a Shinto shrine, Buddhist temple, garden, and sword museum, making it a holistic cultural experience.

We were not informed of no sumo stable being seen as Sumo wrestlers were not available due to tournament. Guide was good and informative but very incomplete tour. If informed before we could have cancelled the tour
