pickup from a convenient point in city centre to send us to the village itself. the entire experience was very immersive. the Māori people showed us their way of living in the past as well as singing performance before ending with a communal dinner
An Absolute Must try experience!! Very well organised and managed. Very informative and engaging. Staff very friendly and polite. Food is amazing too.
We really enjoyed this experience. It was a great way to learn about Māori culture. It was quite interactive, and the song and dances were impressive. Dinner was also very good and plenty to eat!
attractions on the way: There are fun activities in the village, very well presented the Maori culture group size: Not too many people but enough to have fun together
This was an amazing cultural experience! Definitely one of the highlights of our trip! It is important to meet at their pickup site in Rotorua, rather than going directly to the village because the experience actually starts on the busses. They then perform a traditional Haka before the group can enter the village itself. They treated this ceremony with great importance and reverence and made it very clear that this was the only serious part of the evening. Everyone was extremely respectful of this request, and it made it all the more impactful and powerful to experience. Then, we had time to explore different aspects of Maori culture and life. Along the way, the tribespeople did an incredible job of soliciting questions. They truly wanted to share their culture with us, and it was clear that we should not be shy. What a beautiful sentiment! We then had a spell-binding cultural performance in their meeting house! They were some of the most dynamic performers I have ever seen, with a stage presence that spilled out past the walls of the building. It was clear that they genuinely loved performing and working together to share their culture with us. I could have watched that performance for hours! We then headed to dinner, which was served family style to the table. It was very good, and it was nice to talk with the other people around the table. We then rode the bus back to the pick up point. Overall, a truly incredible experience!!
An immersion into Maori history and culture that's well worth doing when you're here. It was a night of song, dance and good food.
The current project feels too commercial and standardized. I hope you can introduce a program that offers a deeper, day-long immersion into Maori life, including their food, clothing, and daily routines. Simply watching performances and playing mini-games isn't enough to truly understand Maori culture. It would be even better if we could stay in the village for a few nights, learn to prepare Maori meals, create handicrafts, and make weapons, while interacting closely with the villagers. A Haka war dance course with a certificate would be fantastic! The dinner was delicious, but it didn't really showcase Maori characteristics. The singing was beautiful!
I'm a Korean tourist and signed up for this program because I'm interested in Māori culture. From the pickup, the friendly driver explained the program's background and itinerary, which made me look forward to it. Everything went smoothly as scheduled upon arrival, from the welcome greeting and Māori cultural activities to the performance and dinner. Above all, I appreciated the pride they have in their culture and the respect they showed for the tourists who came to experience it. The explanations were also given at a relatively slow pace. During dinner, they identified the tourists from each country and sang representative songs from those countries – their talent was amazing! I support their efforts to preserve their traditions while coexisting with the world! I’m a tourist from Korea and joined this program to experience Māori culture. Everything went smoothly from the pickup to the welcome, cultural activities, performance, and dinner. The pride they showed in their culture and the respect for visitors were truly impressive. I especially loved the dinner time when they sang songs from each guest’s country — such a wonderful touch!
It was a truly wonderful experience, leaving a good impression of the Maori culture. The dinner was the best meal I've had on this trip.
The performers are very professional and enthusiastic about their performance. The food was a bit oily though.
