Reviews
it was amazing, the guide was so knowledgeable and has explained everything properly. the haka performance was too good. overall experience was great. one must visit thiss to know about Māori culture and how they live their lives.
We loved everything about The Living Maori Village. Our guide was amazing and we loved listening to her stories as a child growing up there. She explained village life beautifully and with such great respect. We enjoyed eating corn on the cob cooked to perfection from the geothermal spring. We added onto our ticket to see the cultural show and I'm so glad we did. It was truly magnificent.
We opted for a guided tour and it was definitely worth it. Michael, our guide , is a native Maori and enthused at having us join him to show us round the village, a wealth of information. We were served sweetcorn freshly cooked in the hot pool, delicious, no dressing required!
It was drizzling on that day but the guide was still professional to explain to us. The corn cooked by hot spring water was truly sweet and succulent. The geothermal trail is an amazing walk. The smoke coming out from the hot springs makes the ambient surreal. Māori cultural performance is quite ordinary but it’s fine to join. Hangi lunch (NZD$38) is available for order at the cafe. Redemption of Klook ticket is fast and hassle free.
Amazing and educational experience to learn how the Māori people lived here for over 500 years in harmony with nature and also harnessing the power of the Earth in their lives - cooking and bathing. The corn cooked in the thermal waters was the most delicious corn said my 7 year old son! Loved the experience of walking through the pools. It was a particularly cold day and the hot thermal air and the steam created a surreal atmosphere. I’ll definitely recommend people to come here. The guide was very informative and kind and let my kids practice saying the place name many times.
awesome in-depth explanation of our guide who is a direct descent of the indigenous people living in the village. there’s also a great lookout point with nice view.
It was so good. The guide kept walking around and explained very well. It was a great time to learn and feel a little bit about Maori culture. There was also a chance to taste Hangi food along the way. The corn was delicious. It was the perfect time to experience New Zealand's nature, with its mysterious topography, geothermal smoke, ridiculously clear water, and the smell of sulfur! I highly recommend it👍
A very interesting and informative tour. The guide is native living in that area. She was very knowledgeable and her commentary was very clear.
nice tour if you are interested about local tribes of newzealnd and geothermal . cost wise it’s okay to explore if have time
I didnt even need to show my voucher, they had my name on the system for fast transaction to change for physical ticket. It was very insightful and informative. Eye opening to learn more about Maori culture. Highly recommend 👍🏼
Good to know
- An afternoon tour is usually not as full as a morning tour.
- Pre-book the Cultural Performance (especially during the NZ summer months) as numbers are limited.
- On a cold & rainy day the village has a mystical feeling about it as the rain & the cold hitting the geothermal creates clouds of steam making you feel like your walking into another dimension.
