In the late Middle Ages, Henry II's wife was actually Catherine of the Medici family in Florence. It was also during this period that the Renaissance swept France and made the entire Paris. Even Hugo once lived in the Marais and his home is now free to visit (but of course he is not from the Middle Ages).
