🇫🇷Walking tour in the Marais District of Paris. As a history buff, I really love walking tours to see a city and neighborhood from the perspective of locals. You will often get different rewards and feelings. I highly recommend it when arriving in a new city. Do this while in the city! There are 20 districts in Paris. Among them, apart from the Louvre Museum and the two islands, the most representative art, culture and history are the Marais District, the Latin District and the Montmartre Mountains. These three areas have walking tours. This time I It was with the Marais~~ The tour guide took us from the Middle Ages to modern times in the Marais. Marais refers to a low-lying swamp area. At that time, it was actually difficult for people to live here because plants could not be grown at all. People began to live here one after another in the Middle Ages, and the first group of people were Jews (because they were driven out of the Île de la Cité), so there was a very large Jewish community here until the king of the Kingdom of France drove all the Jews out. The Marais district also has many residences for wealthy people and even palaces where kings and queens live. In the late Middle Ages, Henry II's wife was actually Catherine of the Medici family in Florence. It was also during this period that the Renaissance swept France and made the entire Paris. The buildings have a bit more of a Renaissance flavor, and artists began to come to the city crazily at this time. Even Hugo once lived in the Marais and his home is now free to visit (but of course he is not from the Middle Ages). In the 1960s and 1970s, LGBT groups also came to the Marais, and there was the first Gay Bar here. , so you can see a lot of rainbow flags when you walk in the Marais district ~ Although it is raining unexpectedly in spring in Paris, I am still very happy to get to know the Marais again and see Paris from a different angle 🖤
It was an excellent tour with lots of historical content with friendly tour guide.
