Reviews
I was very satisfied with my overall experience using the JR Pass Hiroshima & Yamaguchi Area Rail Pass this time. Departing from Hakata, it was incredibly convenient to travel to Hiroshima, Miyajima, Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi, Yuda Onsen, and other locations, using both the Shinkansen and JR conventional lines. Using the rail pass not only saved on transportation costs but also provided greater flexibility in planning my itinerary, eliminating the need to purchase tickets for every ride. My favorite parts of this trip were the Great Torii Gate at Miyajima, the Five-Story Pagoda at Rurikoji Temple, Yuda Onsen, and the Mojiko area. The transportation connections along the way were smooth, and the station signs were clear, making it easy to navigate even for a first-time visitor. If you're planning a 4-5 day independent trip around Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, and Fukuoka, I highly recommend purchasing this rail pass. It offers great value for money, is easy to use, and made for a very enjoyable railway travel experience.
At Hakata Station, I got a numbered ticket and exchanged it for my pass with almost no wait. I even asked them to reserve a Shinkansen ticket to Hiroshima departing in an hour. While waiting, I went to Doutor Coffee for toast and coffee. From Hiroshima Station, I headed straight to Miyajima with just my backpack. I didn't need to buy a separate ticket; I could go directly from the Shinkansen to the JR exit. After getting off, I took a ferry (had to pay a 100 yen island entry tax) to the island with the JR ferry, and I could return to Hiroshima using the same route. The next day, I went to Onomichi, but because of the train schedule, I transferred from the Shinkansen to the JR line at Fukuyama and returned the same way. This time, the Shinkansen ride was only 25 minutes, so I didn't reserve a specific seat and just took a non-reserved seat. I didn't even reserve the non-reserved seat, just entered with my pass and sat in the non-reserved section or in an empty seat. I got caught once^^ They said it was the Fukushima-Hiroshima section, but when I showed my pass, they just said "Daijobu~" and left. On the last day, the Hiroshima-Hikita section... the Shinkansen was delayed by 2 hours. This time, I reserved a specific seat myself using the machine... Anyway, for a one-hour section, a reserved seat seems safer than a non-reserved seat. I spent two hours sweating and sitting on the platform floor, but I was able to endure it because I had a book with me... Anyway, thanks to the pass, I had a cheap, comfortable, and fun trip!
Easy to redeem! We did not use the machine as it wont scan the QR! So we just went to the teller to redeem and he even booked seats for us to Hiroshima the next day! Bought this at 20 off so we also saved a lot!
Super convenient to use. 5 days pass brought me travel with carefree and saved time to travel. The ferry tickets to/from Miyachimacho were also included. I will definitely use this ticket again next time when I revisit Hiroshima!
I would recommend this whenever you plan on going to Fukuoka. It was easy to redeem, and you get 8 reserved seats in the shinkansen. We mainly used this just to go to Hiroshima, but if you really maximize this pass it would really pay off what you pay. I would definitely avail another once we plan to come back.
Used this to travel from Fukuoka to Hiroshima, Mitakidera, Kure, Miyajima, Iwakuni, and back to Fukuoka. The round trip Shinkansen alone was worth it but to be able to travel to nearby areas is also great!
the pass is so worth it. its probably one of the cheapest similar pass around the area, this covers the least area, however, the major stations along the JR line. it's really cover the cost well for 5 days. totally loved it.
Very convenient. I went to the JR ticketing office to have the voucher exchanged for the JR Rail Pass and asked the staft to give me a reserved seat with oversized luggage space - this is free with no extra charge. The skinkansen is spacious. There is a plug to charge your phone. The trip took 1hr from Hakata Station to Hiroshima Station.
redeeming the actual JR pass is easy. just proceed to the JRpass information to exchange the JR pass.al after arriving from Fukuoka, we need to go directly to Hiroshima. we just informed the staff our planned time and destination. don’t forget to include to reserve your large luggages. if you will travel to Hiroshima, this pass is a wallet life saver 😂. We maximized the usage, we also used this JR pass going to Onomichi! 2nd time using this JR pass 👍👍👍👌
hiroshima-yamaguchi area pass is very affordable. it is unlimited ride to sanyo shinkansen going to hiroshima to hakata and vice versa. okay for the tourist bus to see the Fukuoka prefecture and okay to use to miyajima ferry.
