Okinawa: Tsuboya Yachimun Pottery Class with a Master Potter

Yachimun is Okinawa's pottery, and Tsuboya is where it has been made since the 1680s, when the island's scattered kilns were gathered into one Naha neighbourhood. Your guide meets you on the stone-paved street and walks you past old climbing kilns, shisa lions perched on red-tiled roofs, and the shops of families who have worked this clay for generations.

Then you sit down at the wheel. A working Tsuboya potter guides your hands as you centre the clay and open your own cup or bowl - no experience needed, and only six guests per class, so you get real time at the wheel. Choose your glaze, and we take care of the rest: your piece is fired, finished and posted to your home address about three to four weeks later (shipping fee paid on the day).
