Meiguan Ancient Post Road

The Meiguan Ancient Road is located at the junction of Dayu County in Jiangxi Province and Nanxiong City in Guangdong Province, and was built around the Qin and Han dynasties. In ancient times, it was an important transportation artery connecting the Central Plains and Lingnan. In 214 BC, after Emperor Qin Shi Huang conquered Lingnan, he built a dangerous pass here (also known as "Qin Pass"), thus opening up a channel for communication between north and south, which was also the prototype of the early ancient road. As one of the best-preserved ancient post roads in the country, it has witnessed the historical changes of merchants and goods flowing through for thousands of years.

This ancient post road is about 6 feet wide, with a neatly paved cobblestone surface, overgrown shrubs along the road, and lush trees and rolling hills on both sides of the cliffs. Meiling (Plum Ridge) is named after the plum trees planted along both sides of the ancient road and is one of China's four famous plum blossom viewing spots in history. Every winter (late December to March of the following year), white plums, red plums, and winter sweet plums bloom in competition, their fragrance filling the air, and the plum blossoms all over the mountains complement the ancient post road. Tourists climbing to the top of the pass tower can also experience the wonderful feeling of "stepping across two provinces."

In addition to its beautiful natural scenery, it also carries rich cultural connotations. For thousands of years, literati and poets such as Su Shi and Tang Xianzu have left many popular poems here. It was also an important position during the revolutionary war years, where General Chen Yi carried out three years of guerrilla warfare and wrote the famous "Three Chapters of Meiling." In addition, along the ancient road, there are many historical sites such as the Sixth Patriarch Temple, Yuanbao Stone, Madam Temple, and "Dongpo Tree," telling the vicissitudes and glory of the ancient road over thousands of years.
