The pass is very convenient. Remember to redeem it first at Fukuoka Airport, then take the subway to Tenjin Station and transfer to the Nishitetsu Line. Stop by the service counter to get your stamp first, and the pass can be used for the entire journey. In the morning, we went to Yanagawa for about an hour of boating, then had the famous eel rice for lunch, which costs around 3,000 to 4,000 yen—generous portions with fragrant eel. After eating, we headed to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine to pay our respects, exchanging for Umegae mochi along the way. Afterward, we returned to Tenjin for shopping and dinner, making it a perfect one-day itinerary. It is highly recommended for first-time visitors to Fukuoka to set aside a day and purchase this pass for much greater convenience.
We experienced Nishitetsu, heading to Dazaifu first due to summer restrictions. Dazaifu was very lively, and Omotesando was great for browsing, even though it was under renovation and only a single board remained – it was a unique experience. Next, we went to Yanagawa; the limited express train was really convenient and comfortable. Unfortunately, the summer route in Yanagawa was just a single loop. We had hoped to explore the old streets and eat unagi (eel) rice, so it felt like we took the train specifically just to ride the boat. The boatman didn't speak English, and while we could tell he tried his best, we didn't understand any Japanese. The Yanagawa part was a bit... disappointing.
This activity package is very convenient. As soon as you get off the bus, there's a dedicated person to guide you to the free shuttle, which connects directly to the river cruise. It's a great choice for a first-time Yanagawa river cruise. However, if you want to experience the boatman jumping into the water, this package doesn't include that. In the afternoon, you can use the package to get to Dazaifu for some food, drinks, and sightseeing. For those with limited time, I recommend going directly to Dazaifu for a full day of fun.
Very easy and convenience to use. You collect the ticket at the airport and use it on the day you go. The one hour ride is fantastic , the scenery along the ride is beautiful. Highly recommended to use this ticket.
【Nishitetsu Train, Yanagawa River Cruise, Dazaifu Specialties】All-in-One Deep Dive Tour Special Ticket If you're planning a trip to Dazaifu and Yanagawa, both near Fukuoka, this all-in-one special ticket combining "transportation, experience, and gourmet food" is your best choice. Skip the hassle of buying separate tickets; one pass immediately opens up a twin-city journey to a water town and an ancient capital. You can enjoy a river cruise and exchange for Umegae Mochi, making it a truly excellent package. However, I want to remind everyone that if you're visiting during the summer vacation period, you must check the official river cruise website for summer operating hours. I did my research thoroughly, so it didn't affect me, but I saw many tourists who weren't aware of the summer hours and couldn't take the boat. So, before you depart, be sure to check the official website. During summer hours, morning cruises are only from 8:10 AM to 10:10 AM, and afternoon experiences are only available from 3:00 PM.
The ticket package is redeemed at Fukuoka Airport. If you plan to visit Yanagawa and Dazaifu, purchasing the package will save you a significant amount compared to buying individual tickets. It also includes a free shuttle bus from Yanagawa Station to the boat boarding area.
It rained heavily in the morning, but the directions for the Yanagawa River cruise were very clear, and they thoughtfully provided raincoats. I went to have eel rice on my own, and it was absolutely delicious. The Umegae mochi in Dazaifu was quite good. I am only giving it four stars because I hate my bad luck of running into rain, which put a bit of a damper on the trip.
Buying this pass is a really great deal! Right after getting off at the airport, you will see the ticket pickup counter (it's very noticeable). It also comes with two discount coupons. I recommend translating them in advance and using them at different locations. Actually, someone explains things after you exit the station, but mostly in English~ Overall, the most worthwhile part of the experience was definitely the eel rice; it was authentic and delicious! With the discount coupon, it cost around 600 NTD (original price was over 800 NTD). The only minor regret was that the boatman didn't do the bridge-climbing and jumping-off-the-boat routine 🥲 Here is the location for the free shuttle bus (otherwise you really won't be able to find it...)
The package deal is very convenient, and picking up tickets at the airport is also easy. The plum cake is delicious.
When in Fukuoka, a visit to Yanagawa is a must to experience a boat ride through the "Venice of the East." The boatmen enthusiastically sing and greet passengers from various countries, and the scenery along the way is like stepping into a paradise, allowing everyone to enjoy a leisurely time with a multi-sensory experience.
