Tokyo: Game Boy Mod Workshop in Akihabara (Original/Advance)

By far one of the coolest experiences on my trip to Tokyo. I grew up playing Gameboy games and this experience made me relive those childhood memories. The staff was extremely friendly and I could tell they were passionate about what they were teaching. They not only taught how to make a Gameboy, but also taught the history of Gameboy at the same time. If you are a fan of retro games, I could not recommend this enough!

Wasn't sure what to expect but this ended up being one of my favorite things I did in Tokyo. Small group of 4 which meant you got a lot of hands-on time. Took a bit to find the building but the staff were messaging us to help. Lots of color and button options — took me forever to decide. They check everything works before you leave which was reassuring. Got a Tetris cartridge to take home too. Definitely recommend for anyone who grew up with a Game Boy.

The Gameboy mod experience with Hiroto and Taishi was one of a kind. Assembling my own custom made gameboy and then playing it , brought me back to my childhood. Highly recommended. Hiroto and Taishi were extremely knowledgeable, making this an amazing and smooth experience. If you love gaming, this is a must!

Absolutely amazing experience at Gameboy Mod Workshop at Akihabara, Tokyo in Tokyo! The staff were super friendly, passionate, and incredibly knowledgeable about retro gaming. They made the whole process fun and easy to follow, whether you’re a hardcore Game Boy fan or just getting into retro gaming. Loved being able to customise and build my own Game Boy — such a unique experience and an awesome souvenir to take home. The attention to detail and care they put into the workshop was next level. If you’re visiting Tokyo and love retro games, I highly recommend checking this place out. Definitely one of the highlights of my trip! 🎮🔥

We did this activity on our first trip to Tokyo and WOW! We were absolutely blown away! this was such an incredible experience! As Gameboy kids growing up, this was such a wonderful nostalgic thing for us to do! Making a custom gameboy that you get to take back home with you is such a unique experience and great way to commemorate a visit to the place where it all started! Not to mention, the customer service is phenomenal - the hosts were so kind and helpful. Don’t even think about it - just book it! You NEED to do this and you won’t regret it!

Taichi and Hiroto were fantastic! I can’t express how much fun and how helpful they were throughout the whole process! They were patient and kept things light and casual. I had zero prior experience with this activity and came away with a Gameboy I can’t wait to play and show off. Thank you both SO much!!

Super fun and the staff really know their stuff. History intro at the start was a nice touch. Took home a Game Boy I actually built myself — can't beat that as a souvenir!

Very fun morning building a GBA with a new IPS screen and different shell. very knowledgeable hosts and lots of option for the customisation.
