What to expect
Located in Ninh Binh province 100 km southeast of Hanoi, Hoa Lu and Tam Coc, Tràng An and Mua Cave are four of the most picturesque spots in all the north. For 41 years, from 968 to 1009 CE, Hoa Lu was the ancient capital of Vietnam. Nearby Tam Coc is often referred to as “Ha Long among the rice paddies.” Visitors are conveyed by rowboat along the peaceful Tam Coc stream past green fields and the feet of mountains into the mouths of caves, where they encounter new surprises, like stalactites and stalagmites that shimmer like gemstones just inches from the water.

Our tour guide Long is very nice, informative and helpful. He answered all questions raised by this history/ heritage fan (i.e. me) and always made sure I would not be left behind/ got lost when this photography fan (i.e. me again) took photos for too long (LOL). The small group tour was enjoyable to allow meeting nice new friends and comfortable small van transfer. Itinerary is just about right if you like heritage, landscape and some exercises -500 steps to mountain tops and 20 min cycling. You can help the boat lady on the boat riding if you want. Haha
The meeting point was difficult to find, and I was flustered going back and forth. Because it was a hotel very close to the Grand Church, I mistakenly assumed they would pick me up from the hotel. The tour was in English. I only understood about 30%, but I managed somehow. The reasons I chose this tour were that it goes to Hoa Lu, Tam Coc, and Mua Cave, includes cycling, and returns to the hotel at 5:30 PM. As a result, I didn't get back to the hotel until 7:30 PM, but the two-hour boat ride in Tam Coc was still sufficient, and when I asked to be dropped off near the Grand Church on the way back, they fulfilled my request, which showed how adaptable the wonderful guide was. I was able to climb the 500 steps, which were almost a cliff, to the higher point, even though I'm 56 years old and my knees are a little sore. But I was drenched in sweat, so maybe it would have been better to spend more time relaxing in the countryside. Overall, this tour was an absolute bargain at $4400!
definitely good to join, the trip started out late though at 9am after picking up everyone and ended back in Hanoi around 7pm. Thomas our guide is good, attentive to details and helpful. The bus transport is clean, comfort level maybe 3.5/5. View in Nim Binh is awesome! we like this package cuz we can choose whether to take part in certain activities like cycling and Mua Cave climbing. Overall the boat ride was the highlight of the trip, it's 1.5 hours long so prepare your bumps for it cuz it can be pretty numbing after awhile.
Great experience! Tour guide had good knowledge about the history of the country and spoke good enough English for everyone to understand. Tam Coc was beautiful and Mua Caves hike was a little tough but worth it! Should not miss out on this experience!
enjoyed the trip with guide Zoey/Dui. trip started on time all is smooth and he provides history and recommendations. bus condition also good and luxury . wati travel was great
The trip was great. The weather forecast was saying heavy rain, but our tour guide Vu Long was very responsible and was checking on everybody, he changed a schedule a bit according to weather so we did hiking first then other activities, cycling was fun. lunch was a buffet so there was vegetarian option also. thanks to the tour guide we experienced the best because in the middle of boat riding it started to rain, had he not to change plans hiking would have been difficult. And also due to some personal emergency Long helped me a lot!!Very satisfied with the tour and highly recommend it!
Our guide Thomas was a joy to have! Friendly and funny guy 🙆🏻♀️ Hoa Lu was alright, but we really enjoyed Tam Coc and Mua Cave as the scenery there was chef's kiss (although Mua Cave view points were a bit overcrowded 😬). Rated itenerary 4/5 stars as pickup was late despite us walking to the meeting point (not at our hotel as bus is too big for road) and the bikes were faulty (flat tires and loose seats. Although, I must say, trying our own bike route was an adventure on it's own 😂. Lunch was decent - we are thankful there were vegan options were available that were quite tasty, but oily 🛢️🛢️🛢️. Overall a great experience and we were lucky to have good weather for the bulk of it!
It was a great experience especially for people who likes outdoor activities. There's a bit of hiking, biking, and rowing. It was also a good birding area, we got a lot of lifers. Our guide, Thien/Thomas did a great job explaining the places that we visited and the activities. He also ensured our safety and that we are always on time. For improvement, the bikes need a lot of maintenance, most of the units have rusty parts or deflated tires and are not safe to be used.
The tour had me leaving my heart in Ninh Binh. xD Tour guide Vu Long was very informative and very mindful of our timing in and out each places. From Hoa lu to Trang An and Hang Mua. The highlight was Trang An - a 2 hour boat ride, as well as Hang Mua. Hiking up wasn't easy but our tour guide has explained and informed us all of the risk and precautions. It was an amazing tour as I also made friends along the way! Would 100% recommend anyone coming to Hanoi to go on this tour!
Highly recommend this travel itinerary! My husband and I don't speak any English, but our guide, Vu Long, was incredibly kind. He sent us explanations translated into Korean one by one and even checked in with us again. Even though we couldn't communicate verbally, we had a very fun, fulfilling, and comfortable trip. And for Koreans, rice is power! The lunch buffet was delicious.
