[Tokyo Sumo Stable] Sumo Viewing & Experience
Let’s enter a real sumo stable, not a stage set! Let’s learn about the history and culture of sumo!
- Let's watch a powerful sumo match while eating chanko hot pot!
- Let’s get on the dohyo and experience sumo! Let’s take a commemorative photo with the sumo wrestlers!
What to expect
This sumo stable is a sacred sumo stable where the great Yokozuna Kitanoumi actually coached as an oyakata. This is the only place in Japan, here at [Tokyo Sumo Stable], where you can watch a sumo show in a sumo stable that was actually used as a training ground. You can experience the real history of sumo, not just a stage set.
At this sumo stable, a guide will explain the history and rules of sumo in English while you enjoy chanko-nabe.
Witness the powerful sight of retired professional sumo wrestlers clashing right before your eyes. Seven people per time slot can experience sumo training.
Even those who did not participate in the experience can go up to the dohyo at the end and take a commemorative photo with the sumo wrestlers.
This is an activity that both adults and children who know nothing about sumo can enjoy.
Please note that if there are few people who wish to experience sumo, the event may end earlier than the scheduled time.
*Chanko-nabe is only served between 11:00 and 13:00 and between 19:00 and 21:00. Please note that it will not be served at other times. Vegetarians, please inform the staff on the day.

Reviews
Had a really pleasant and entertaining evening! The show consisted of explanations of sumo basics (what it is, winning condition, history and others) and demo of sumo moves by two (retired) wrestlers and audiences vs the wrestlers. The management was smooth, stable manager (Ms. Mayuko) was really kind and accomodating. If you choose show and meal, they even have vegetarian option! Will recommend this to everyone who would like to know more about or try out sumo!
After searching through multiple locations online, I am very glad we chose to come to this one! From the absolute get go, the host and staff were extremely welcoming and helpful (especially with our 3 year old). We loved that the venue was an old stable and provided an authentic atmosphere. The food was delicious (even offering us seconds!) and the demonstrations were entertaining and enjoyable. We also loved that we got to interact and take photos with the team after! HIGHLIGHT OF OUR TOKYO STAY! Would highly recommend!!!
Unforgettable experience! My mother and grandmother loved getting in the ring with real rikishi (sumo wrestlers).
it was a perfect balance between fun and insightful! the presenter was very entertaining. a big thank you to the sumo westlers. I recommend trying the experience if you can. I tried my best to push them but they didn’t move a inch! big respect 😅
We really enjoyed this experience! It is geared towards tourists, so you do need to know that upfront. The first maybe 30 minutes are informative about sumo and then you meet the wrestlers. All of the staff seemed very happy and passionate. The wrestlers and the host were very welcoming and engaging. We had a great time.
Brilliant, very good show, very good food and a guaranteed 2 hours of laughter and pure enjoyment. very well run operation and highly recommend taking part in the experience of sumo wrestling. would do it again
I was dubious about going to the sumo. Very “ touristy “ in fact it was a perfect blend of education and entertainment. The four of us had a great time. BYW it is based in an old sumo stable and is very authentic.
Amazing and so funny, the guide/host had such a welcoming and bubbly vibe. Instantly putting us in a great mood, ready to have a good time. He spoke perfect English originally from Ireland. The sumos were fun too and very interactive with the audience. if you are unsure of what company to choose, go this one! I will be recommending this to anyone who visits. My partner got involved and had a turn at ‘taking on the sumos’ (watching this alone was worth every penny 🤣). This activity is not typically something I’d even think to do or experience but my partner and I thought it was great. We are in our late 20’s and loved it.
It was an amazing experience! I’d love to come back. However, I would recommend to set an age-limit for kids, as there were toddlers that kept crying for the whole experience and ruined it.
amazing experience! we loved how fun and interactive the show was and would 110% recommend!
