What to expect

Experience the beauty of Kintsugi in a peaceful Tokyo studio, where broken pottery is transformed into art. Guided by a skilled instructor, you’ll repair a ceramic piece using traditional techniques that highlight cracks with shimmering gold. Learn the philosophy behind Kintsugi—embracing imperfections as part of an object’s history—while applying lacquer, setting the fragments, and adding the final gold finish. By the end of the workshop, you’ll take home your restored piece, a meaningful reminder of resilience, craftsmanship, and the elegance found in imperfection.

A wonderful experience from start to finish. Sui was warm, knowledgeable, and made the whole process feel accessible — even for a complete beginner. The studio was easy to find, well-equipped, and had a really relaxed, unhurried atmosphere. We left not only with a beautiful piece to take home, but genuinely feeling restored. Highly recommend to anyone looking for something creative and a little bit meditative.”

Amazing experience and one of the funniest things we did in Tokyo! We joined the Kintsugi workshop in Asakusa and honestly had such a great time. Our teacher, Akei, was the best — super kind, patient, funny, and somehow managed to keep control of our very “serious” international art competition. Our group was clearly the best group: me Slovenian, my friend Italian, and two girls from Australia that we met there. Very quickly, the peaceful Japanese art of Kintsugi turned into a high-pressure world championship of ceramic repairing. Everyone was pretending to be calm and artistic, but inside we all wanted to win. 😄 And of course… the winner was me. No surprise. Akei didn’t officially give me a trophy, but I think everyone knew the truth. We laughed a lot, learned something beautiful about Japanese culture, and left with great memories and our own golden repaired pieces. Highly recommend this workshop — especially if you are ready to possibly destroy your new friends in competition.

I just finished a Kintsugi pottery workshop with Betty and April, and it was honestly one of the most healing experiences I’ve had. As someone currently moving through a divorce and trying to rebuild parts of myself, there was something incredibly a life moment about sitting with broken pieces and learning how to mend them with care instead of hiding the cracks. Betty and April held the session with so much warmth, gentleness, and intention. You could feel how much thought and heart they poured into every detail. The calm and safe atmosphere they created. I never once felt rushed or out of place. Instead, I felt grounded and reflective. Today’s session taught me that brokenness is not something to be ashamed of, but something that can become part of your story and your beauty. Thank you, Betty and April, for creating such a meaningful space. I’ll carry both the piece I made and the experience itself with me for a very long time

I had really fun experience with my workshop for Kintsugi. It is a really fun experience. Everybody was very knowledgeable and kind. I did not have any issues with conversing in English. It is a really fun way to explore the arts and crafts workshops in Tokyo. Saira was very helpful in helping me with the whole process and history of Kintsugi.

Great experience, even solo! Staff were very in hands and great at explaining the process of making a kitsugi plate. They also explained the history behind the art, and you walk away with a beautiful piece, made more so by the beautiful gold cracks within.

We had a super fun kintsugi class. April was really knowledgeable & helpful whenever we got stuck. She was also super encouraging & we got to leave the class with beautifully repaired pottery. I would recommend this class to anyone else interested in learning this art.

A Little Note from Our Family Trip We recently tried Kintsugi as a family—just me, my wife, and our 8-year-old son. It was a wonderful experience, but I wanted to share a quick "lesson learned" to help you enjoy it even more! I initially thought the process would be quick and simple, but it actually requires quite a bit of patience. Here is my best advice: Slow Down: Don't try to squeeze this into a packed schedule. If you’re in a rush, the slow steps might feel a bit stressful. Enjoy the Quiet: Instead of hurrying, use the time to chat and connect. It’s a beautiful way for couples or families to bond while working with their hands. Be Present: Kintsugi is all about the journey. Go into it expecting to spend time on the details, and you’ll find it much more relaxing. If you give yourself the gift of time, it’s a truly magical experience. Just breathe, talk, and enjoy the process!
