What to expect
Klias Wetland is a mangrove forest reserve and a destination quickly gaining popularity with tourists. Catch it before it becomes a tourist hotspot and experience the best of Kilas while it's still quiet and pristine. One of the major attractions is, of course, the chance to spot the rare Proboscis Monkeys. The tree-dwelling celebrities typically show up after sunset, so make sure you keep your eyes out for them as you sail along the river. You'll also enjoy a delicious dinner onboard and watch fireflies dance in the night sky.

Reviews
the journey from my hotel to this place was almost 3 hours (one way) but if was worth it!!! I’ve been wanting to see the proboscis monkeys since my last visit to Sabah and I finally saw it in the wild. the guide was friendly and knowledgable as well. we were lucky to spot the silver langur too.
Overall a fun and enjoy trip for us. Our tour guide is professional and the provided food is fine too. We spot 3 kinds of monkeys there and what surprised us the most was spoting a hornbill which my partner is a big fan of hornbill. Greatly recommand to bring a telescope or you can rent one there too.
We are lucky to have bumped into 2 types of monkies, the long-tailed macaque and the proboscis, though the proboscis is a bit far from sight as they often climb up to the tree top. We are also lucky enough to see the baby crocodile, numerous bird species and even a monitor lizard lying on a coconut tree! The trip is amazing that we do not want to leave the boat! We wish to have more time on the river! Also hope that the raincoat could be included for the tour since when we arrive, it was pouring rain and we have to buy the raincoat from the local store. For other facilities like the toilet, it was better than expected. Food is not bad though not much variety. Tour guide is ok. Overall a good day spent in the countryside of Kota Kinabalu and would recommend to people who love to be in nature and wildlife.
We had so much fun on this tour! We were so lucky to have spotted 3 diff monkey species, kingfishers, and a baby crocodile. The nighttime cruise with the fireflies was also so relaxing and so pretty. Dinner was also pretty good. Our guide Jumaliah is the best! Went above and beyond.
Our guide and driver, Sulani, meticulously introduced us to several different types of monkeys in the rainforest, and we saw at least three kinds. The fireflies twinkling along the riverbank at night were also an experience we had never had before!
Door-to-door pick-up and drop-off. Guided tour along the way explaining local customs, culture, and history. Saw many animals.
The ride to the jetty from kk city was long but it was comfortable (abit bumpy due to the road conditions). The river cruise was great. Get to see monkeys and even a large lizard. The guide and the boatman tried their best to spot wildlife. Get to see fireflies in the night even though it was very bright due to the full moon.
This half day tour comes highly recommend by my friends in KK. The trip to Klias takes about 2 hours and you get to enjoy the scenery of the mountains along the way. Remember to bring along mosquito repellent, if not, you may have to buy it from the shop in Klias. Upon arrival, we had local snacks with coffee or tea, the food is surprisingly good and after our break, we head out to see the proboscis monkeys. The driver of our boat is really good in spotting the monkeys from a distance and our guide was really funny, cracking jokes along the way which makes it really fun. He said there are crocodiles in the river but not to worry, coz they are vegetarian 😂. We did not spot any vegetarian crocodiles but did come across one at night and to spot it, shine the light in the river and you if see 2 red dots, it is the eyes of the crocodile reflecting back so you can see them. We returned to the jetty after the tour to have our dinner and it was buffet style with a range of dishes from chicken, beef, eggs, vegetables, soup and fruits for dessert. My kids commented that this was the best meal they had in KK 😅. We waited until the sun was setting and we head back out to the river to catch a glimpse of the fireflies. It took some time for our eyes to adjust to the darkness and once it has, you can see the fireflies lighting up the tree like a Christmas tree. We have some fireflies flying into our boat and we could cup it in our hands to have a closer look. Kids will be really enthralled by this experience. A really good trip. Me and my family had a great time
We decided to go for this tour at 10 am and was able to book it. The driver picked us up at the hotel on time and was friendly. The van was clean, comfortable, and air conditioned. The ride took 2 hours on bumpy roads. We were served some simple refreshments when we arrive. Afterward, we were on the boat with two other groups of people. There was no tour guide for us but there was one from the other group so we got some good information as well. The boat captain is very good at spotting wildlife and would stop the boat for us to take pictures. Overall experience is amazing! We couldn’t see the sunset but the sky was beautiful.
Although it was raining heavily and we drove for 2.5 hours to get here, I still felt it was worth it. It was a bit far so I couldn't see the monkeys' faces clearly, but it was really fun to see them swinging on the trees. After dinner, it was raining heavily and everyone was planning to give up watching the fireflies. Later, when the lady saw that the rain was a little lighter, she still suggested that we give it a try. As expected, we were lucky to see quite a few fireflies!
