What to expect
- Stop 1: Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine & Kimono Experience Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is one of Fukuoka’s most famous landmarks and is revered as the head shrine of the “God of Learning.” It enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of scholarship, attracting countless examinees every year who come to pray for success on their exams. Kimono Experience: This is an optional add-on. If you would like the kimono experience, please select the package that includes it.
Items such as hair accessories and upgraded styles require additional payment (the shop accepts cash only, so please prepare Japanese yen in advance). It is recommended to wear clothes that are easy to change into. You can bring your own small accessories and style your hair to enhance your photos. Children’s kimonos are not available. The kimono experience lasts approximately the entire day. At the end of the tour, there is no need to return to the shop; you can return the kimono directly on the bus, making it easy, time-saving, and adding convenience and flexibility to your itinerary.
- Stop 2: Kankitsu-no-Mori (Environmental Art Forest) Every autumn, the Environmental Art Forest welcomes its most vibrant season of the year. The mountains are gradually dyed in shades of red, orange, and gold, layered across the forest and contrasting with the clear streams and tranquil ponds, making you feel as though you have stepped into a traditional Japanese autumn scroll.
- Stop 3: Kunen’an A highly renowned yet exclusive private garden that is only open to the public for a few days each spring and autumn. Built along the mountain slope, it perfectly showcases the Japanese garden art of “borrowed scenery” (shakkei). Inside, green maples, red maples, and evergreen trees intertwine, reflecting in the pond like a colorful painter’s palette. Kunen’an open dates: November 16 to November 29. It is closed on other dates, during which visits will be redirected to Hiyoshi Jinja (Bibizan Shrine) for maple viewing.
- Stop 4: Daikozan-ji Temple One of Kyushu’s most iconic maple-viewing spots. In late autumn, about 400 maple trees on the temple grounds blaze in brilliant reds, combining with the ancient temple halls and vermilion bridges to create a breathtaking postcard of Japanese scenery.
- Stop 5: Kamado Shrine (Homangu Kamado Shrine) Kamado Shrine has been famous since ancient times for praying for good relationships, happiness, and good fortune. During the maple season, the layers of red leaves illuminated by lights become even more stunning. The vermilion shrine hall and the colorful autumn foliage complement each other, creating a tranquil and mystical Japanese nighttime atmosphere, allowing you to experience an autumn ambiance completely different from the daytime.
Centered around the theme of "Autumn Maples," this tour carefully connects five distinctive attractions across Kyushu, allowing you to deeply experience the diverse charms of autumn in Kyushu within a limited time!

Reviews
It was the perfect time to see the autumn leaves, and the clear weather made it even better. Our tour guide, Emily, was friendly and attentive, and in addition to the itinerary, she was happy to recommend Kyushu attractions and food. Basically, all four spots involved a good amount of walking and climbing stairs. Except for Kuinen-an, there weren't many tourists, so it was very peaceful, and the autumn leaves were beautiful.
First, the tour guide Thomas provided clear explanations of the scenic spots along the way and took ample care of the needs of each member of the group. He also helped my wife and me take a few photos. In addition, this itinerary was also very unique, because one of the attractions is only open to the public twice a year. If we missed it this time, we would have to wait until next year. Finally, I am very satisfied with the entire trip, and I will participate in this type of day trip again next year when I come to Fukuoka. I hope to meet a tour guide as good as Thomas.
Gogoday tour guide Emily is amiable and very attentive to the group members. Mifuneyama Rakuen is so beautiful, and this trip is worth taking in any season. The uphill path to the highest point of Yūtoku Inari Shrine is a bit challenging, but the scenery is worth it. It's just that there wasn't enough time to stop for coffee, and I hope to spend more time at this spot next time.
Personally, I think the guides, activity times, and transportation arrangements were all very good!
The itinerary was great, we went on 11/19 and saw over 50% of the autumn leaves! The tour guide, Mr. Tajima, was very enthusiastic and a really nice person!
