The performance is set against the natural backdrop of Yulong Snow Mountain. This majestic snow-capped mountain is covered with snow all year round and is magnificent. With the change of seasons and weather, the scenery changes endlessly. During the performance, the magnificent scenery of the snow-capped mountain is perfectly integrated with the stage performance, presenting a visual feast that shocks the audience and makes people feel as if they are in a dreamlike world.
"Impression of Lijiang" is co-directed by three famous directors, Zhang Yimou, Wang Chaoge and Fan Yue. As a leading figure in the Chinese film industry, Zhang Yimou has a unique visual style and profound cultural heritage. His works often show grand scenes and profound connotations; Wang Chaoge, with his innovative stage concept and unique interpretation of culture, injects rich emotions and agile vitality into the performance; Fan Yue has outstanding achievements in stage design and stage play directing, providing a solid guarantee for the stage presentation of the performance. The actors of "Impression of Lijiang" are all ordinary farmers from 10 local ethnic minorities in Yunnan, totaling more than 500 people. They have not received professional performance training, but they have shown their own culture and life in the most real and simple way. These actors used their singing, dancing and sweat to interpret their love for their hometown and their understanding of life, allowing the audience to feel the charm of the original ecological culture. Their performances were not artificial or deliberate, but were completely emotional expressions from the heart. This authenticity and simplicity is one of the important reasons why "Impression of Lijiang" can impress the audience.
The performance is unique in stage design. The 12-meter-high "Ancient Tea Horse Road" is built with red sandstone, symbolizing the red soil of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. In the 360-degree full-view theater that can accommodate 1,200 people, it creates an immersive feeling for the audience. The seating arrangement in the VIP area was excellent, and we were provided with sun hats and bottled water before being seated. The performance, designed by Zhang Yimou, featured performers in ethnic minority costumes, creating a beautiful spectacle. The only downside is that it's weather-dependent; as an open-air theater, a heavy rain would detract from the experience.

Directed by Zhang Yimou, the performance features hundreds of local villagers, which gives it a raw, authentic energy rather than a polished, staged feel. There isn’t a clear storyline — it’s more a series of cultural scenes highlighting different traditions and lifestyles. At times it can feel a bit repetitive or hard to follow, but the scale and atmosphere keep it engaging. One thing to keep in mind is the altitude. Sitting through the show above 3,000 meters can be tiring if you’re not acclimated, and it does get sunny and windy.

Beautiful performance! It’s really worth it. However, it was raining during the show so we could not really see the snow mountain as the background of the performance and despite the bad weather, the performers did really really well!

tbh the show wasn’t impressive or engaging. additionally, it doesn’t make sense to purchase this ticket individually, without the other vicinities’ passes like the cable car tickets etc.
