What to expect
Experience the diverse charm of the Windmill Kingdom in one day, exploring three classic Dutch sights! First stop is Zaanse Schans, known as the “living museum” windmill village. Explore the clog workshop, cheese factory, windmill secrets, and diamond craft workshop to experience the ingenuity and prosperity of 17th-century Holland: In the traditional clog workshop, artisans demonstrate on-site how to carve authentic Dutch clogs from a single piece of poplar wood, a fascinating blend of mechanical and manual craftsmanship; At the cheese factory, staff in traditional costumes explain the production process. From milk to finished product, every step embodies centuries of craftsmanship. You can also sample various specialty flavors: smoked, truffle, beer… there’s always one to tantalize your taste buds; Stroll along the river lined with windmills, and you can choose to climb an old, still-operating windmill to witness firsthand how wind power drives gears, saws wood, or grinds flour, appreciating early energy wisdom; The diamond workshop in the village offers a close-up view of artisans cutting raw stones, learning about the history and glory of the Netherlands as the world’s diamond capital. The second stop is the adjacent city center of Zaandam. This town is known as a “real-life Lego town” due to the fantastical Inntel Hotel, which is “pieced together” from over 70 traditional Dutch houses, colorful and stacked, resembling a fairytale building block castle, making it a popular photo spot. Finally, arrive at Giethoorn, the “Venice of the North.” This stop includes a complimentary lunch, allowing you to refuel easily without waiting in line. After lunch, take a boat ride through the waterways, experiencing the fairytale-like tranquility and nature, far from the hustle and bustle, leisurely and comfortable.

Reviews
The entire experience was fantastic! At Zaanse Schans, we watched the manufacturing process of Dutch wooden shoes and cheese, and even got free cheese samples. We bought plenty of souvenirs, and afterward, we enjoyed the beautiful harbor scenery and took photos with the large windmills! So many wonderful memories! The tour guide was also very thoughtful and helped every traveler take pictures. We had a brief 30-minute stop at the LEGO village, which was a small but very photogenic spot, and Zaandam is a beautiful fairytale town! Afterward, we drove to the highly anticipated Giethoorn. We had lunch first, then took a canal boat tour through the entire picturesque village, with a boatman providing commentary and the tour guide translating. The whole experience was 100% perfect! We then had some free time to walk around and take photos. It was an amazing experience, though unfortunately, time flew by, and we wished we had more!
A heads-up for future travelers: "Chinese tour group" means the tour guide speaks Mandarin. Our guide for this day trip, **A-Du (Brother Du)**, was incredibly professional and attentive. He took excellent care of everyone, regardless of their origin. A-Du's background of studying and working in the Netherlands gave him a deep understanding of the local culture and current situation. His explanations were informative and humorous, making his insights very engaging. I particularly appreciated A-Du's thoughtfulness on the return journey. He proactively approached each group member, asking if they had any questions about their subsequent travel plans. Even if it wasn't related to the day's itinerary, he generously shared his personal recommendations for restaurants and attractions, and even prepared self-made images for everyone to reference. This was incredibly helpful for our later travels in various Dutch cities. Thanks to his advice, I even adjusted my itinerary to better suit the local weather! Regarding the meal arrangements, while you might not always want Chinese food when traveling abroad, options in the Netherlands can be limited. Having a hot bowl of noodles or rice in Giethoorn on a cold, windy day was incredibly comforting and warming. I also have a small suggestion for the organizers: Given the long travel time and the crowds at the attractions, the current itinerary feels a bit rushed at Zaanse Schans. The scenery there is beautiful, so I recommend departing on time or even a little earlier to allow everyone more time for photos and sightseeing. Also, the Lego House in Zaandam is really just a photo op, and perhaps not entirely necessary to visit.
The overall experience of this trip (March 7th) was excellent. Our tour guide, Adu, provided clear and well-organized explanations throughout the journey. He not only gave detailed introductions to the historical backgrounds and cultural characteristics of each attraction but also presented them in a relaxed and engaging way, making the entire itinerary both enriching and never dull. Adu himself was very enthusiastic, patiently answering all questions from the group members, and his itinerary planning and time management were impeccable. The attractions on the tour were also well worth seeing, such as the picturesque Zaanse Schans Windmill Village, full of traditional Dutch charm, and the playful Lego Village, which is perfect for photos. Each place had its unique character. Giethoorn was particularly impressive; the small bridges, flowing water, and tranquil village atmosphere were incredibly relaxing. Overall, it was a rich and enjoyable trip. We not only saw many distinctive places, but also, thanks to tour guide Adu's professional and enthusiastic leadership, the entire journey was smoother and more fun. It comes highly recommended.
Very glad that we made the decision to join this day tour instead of getting there by ourselves. We are very grateful and happy that we had 小芳 as our guide for the trip. She was not only very friendly and helpful, also very thoughtful and took great care of us! There was a traffic accident on the highway, on our way to the Giethoorn area which resulted us being almost an hour late. 小芳 was worried about us not being able to get the best out of the area, she skipped lunch and walked with us , explaining in detail about the area. A very enjoyable trip with very good narratives from 小芳 !
The meeting point was easy to find, just right behind the Amsterdam Centraal station. The guide Mr Du was knowledgeable and fluent in explaining the history of and current situation in Netherlands, and also helpful in answering queries. Lunch could choose either beef noodle or chicken fried rice, quite sumptuous and filling. The itinerary was planned quite well, with appropriate staying time in each attraction point. Guide moved with moderate walking speed and easy to follow even for older guests. Coach was comfortable despite aircon issue. Tour price was slightly higher than other competitors but overall it was quite worth it. Will recommend it.
It was a good trip, the guide was very professional, with a very safe driver, the places we visited were great, my family really enjoyed it, I recommend it to people who want to go visit, it was a good experience.
After selecting your departure date on Klook, you will be added to a WeChat group within a few days of purchase. Details regarding the day's meeting point and itinerary will be announced there, making the arrangements clear and giving you peace of mind. If you're traveling independently, fitting three attractions into one day can be quite challenging. Therefore, if you have limited time but want to see multiple places, joining this tour will be more convenient. Lunch is arranged at a Chinese restaurant in Giethoorn, where you can choose between beef noodles or chicken fried rice according to your preference, ensuring a satisfying and hassle-free meal. Including travel time, the itinerary runs from approximately 8:30 AM to 6 PM, making it a comfortable day trip. We wish you good weather and a pleasant journey!
Thank you for the lovely winter weather in the Netherlands today, and thank you to our day trip guide, Xiao Fang, for today's tour. Before visiting each attraction, Xiao Fang carefully explained the origins, giving us a preliminary understanding of each site. Most thoughtfully, at the Zaanse Schans windmill village, whether you're traveling alone or with friends and family, Xiao Fang will help you take beautiful group photos in front of the windmill wharf. This is a no-brainer day trip, and with the patient and meticulous care of our guide, Xiao Fang, I highly recommend joining without a second thought... highly recommended!!
A special shout-out to our tour leader, Xiao Fang! Throughout the entire trip, she was very considerate of the group members, patient, and even helped take photos! She also has a super broad knowledge base and was able to explain the attractions we visited and answer various questions about the Netherlands! She's also an official museum guide! ~ Because of the rain and traffic this morning, the driver was a little late, but she communicated and successfully negotiated more playtime for us! ~ The whole trip was great! Although it rained on the way out and back, causing some traffic, we were lucky enough to encounter the rare good weather in the Netherlands at the attractions, making it very worthwhile!
I'm so glad I joined this day trip before leaving Amsterdam, the three selected destinations were fantastic. Whether it was the picturesque scenery with a 360-degree view, or the leisurely time on a boat in Giethoorn, everything was just wonderful! Also, a big thank you to the two guides for their careful explanations and care. The ride to and from the destinations was also safe and comfortable. I chose the fried rice for lunch, and it tasted like home, I loved it! Don't overthink it, give yourself a day to relax and enjoy it with them!
