A highland wetland located at the junction of Japan’s Kanto and Tohoku regions, spanning Gunma, Fukushima, Tochigi, and Niigata Prefectures. It is one of Japan’s largest highland wetlands, known for its vast wetland landscapes, rich flora and fauna ecosystems, and famous hiking trails. Key attractions of Oze include:

• Ozenuma Pond: This is the heart of Oze, surrounded by dense forests and wetlands. The tranquil lake surface offers picturesque scenery, attracting numerous photography enthusiasts and nature lovers.
• Wetland Plants: One of Oze's most famous plants is the skunk cabbage (a wetland plant with white spathes). In spring, the wetlands are covered with large expanses of blooming skunk cabbage, making it one of Oze's most iconic sights. Additionally, many other alpine plants grow in Oze.
• Mountain Climbing and Hiking: Oze offers several hiking trails suitable for various fitness levels. One of the most popular routes starts from Hatomachi Pass, traversing wetlands and grasslands, and offering magnificent views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

The scenery of Oze wetland varies with each season. In spring, you can see blooming skunk cabbage; summer brings lush green vegetation; autumn paints the mountainsides with red leaves; and in winter, due to heavy snowfall, most areas are closed, becoming a natural resting place. Oze is also an environmentally conscious area, and visitors are encouraged to adhere to the “Leave No Trace” principle, taking their trash with them and protecting the local ecosystem. This is one of the reasons Oze has been able to maintain its natural beauty and ecological diversity for a long time.
