Ishigaki Island: Sunset & Limited-Time Yaeyama Hime Firefly Watching Tour (Okinawa)

Instructor: Leia Safety: I felt confident and pleased that the pre-survey was thoroughly conducted via QR code. Location: The fireflies were abundant and fantastic within walking distance. Experience: I didn't have high expectations since I had experienced fireflies in Bohol, Philippines, but this was overwhelmingly better, and everything was truly perfect. Equipment: Even though it was raining, I was touched that they rented out clean rain boots that fit my size.

Akari san was extremely passionate about leading this jungle night tour! in our journey to the jungles, she gave us plenty of background of things in Ishigaki and what to expect in the tour. when we got to the jungles, Akari san was always on the lookout for different creatures such as coconut crabs, blueberry crabs and plenty of bugs and spiders! She would then give some background and help us take pictures. we were also lucky to see stars that night when the sky cleared up. overall this is a 10/10 experience - certainly a much better experience with Akari san as our guide.

Everyone, if you're looking for a HINA tour guide, look no further! To get straight to the point, we enjoyed our tour with Hina so much that after the firefly tour, we additionally booked the snorkeling tour and the Iriomote canoe & canyoning tour! Hina was so kind and friendly during the tours, making them truly enjoyable! Although it doesn't show well in the photos, when you actually see the fireflies, there are hundreds of them! Being surrounded by fireflies felt like being in the movie Avatar ☺️✨. Hina also thoughtfully showed us spots where the fireflies were incredibly visible, which was great. She also shared tips on local restaurants, an ice cream shop with a beautiful sunset view, and even how to find unique souvenirs, allowing us to make the most of our trip! For anyone wanting to have a fun trip, I highly recommend Hina as a guide!

We had an absolutely magical experience on the Yaeyama Hime Firefly Viewing Tour, and we owe it all to our fantastic Japanese guide, Hina. From the moment the tour started, she was incredibly kind and welcoming. Hina shared so many helpful tips on how to spot and appreciate the fireflies, which made the experience so much better for us. She truly went out of her way to ensure everyone was comfortable and having a great time. Her warm personality made the whole evening feel special and joyful. Sebastian was our guide, he spoke great English and was very friendly all the time. He gave us introduction about the city as well as the fireflies on our way to the site, he even stopped in the middle at a observation deck for us to take photos of the city. He explained everything very nicely to make sure everyone’s safety, communication was also smooth. Luckily the weather was nice and we did indeed see so many fireflies. Fantastic experience and I’d definitely recommend!

[Tour Review] It rained a lot when we went, so the guide (Sebastian) asked if we wanted a tour when picking us up because we might not be able to see the fireflies, but we still wanted to have a new experience even if we didn't see them, and we were happy to see so many fireflies! It was so great to experience the unrealistic natural environment that appears in Japanese animations in person, and it was a shame that we would have been able to see the stars if the weather wasn't cloudy, but it was great to see a lot of fireflies! Sebastian communicated well in English, explained the types of local restaurants well, and guided us carefully for safety and comfort! On April 9, 2026, seeing that the weather was good, I signed up at noon and received a WhatsApp message within an hour. The tour guide spoke English, so communication was perfectly fine. The hotel pickup service within the city and the provision of rubber boots were very convenient. The guide managed the time perfectly, arriving just before dark. There was still a little light when we walked into the jungle, and then it gradually became completely dark. We really saw as many fireflies as shown in the official pictures, and occasionally a few flew right by us, but we were told not to touch them. The guide repeatedly warned us not to use our phones or take photos, and most people there followed the rules. If you have children who are afraid of the dark, please be aware, because it gets completely dark! You can't even see the guide's face; you rely on hearing their voice to know when to gather.

Our trip was incredibly comfortable and satisfying, thanks to our guide Hina, who personally led and drove us. She meticulously introduced us to delicious local restaurants and desserts, which made our Ishigaki trip even richer. Thanks to her, my family and I were able to enjoy a special time watching fireflies, a truly meaningful experience since fireflies are not easily seen in Korean cities. It was a very memorable day.

Our Firefly Viewing Tour in Ishigaki was absolutely magical and far exceeded our expectations. Witnessing the Yaeyama fireflies create a 'carpet of light' across the jungle floor felt like stepping into a scene from a fairytale. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable, explaining the fireflies' unique 30-minute glowing window and ensuring we stayed quiet to protect the ecosystem. Even without photos (which are restricted to protect the insects), the memory of hundreds of tiny blinking lights is something I’ll never forget. Truly a must-do for nature lovers!

They asked whether we still wanted to go on the trip as the weather wasnt the best, but we decided to continue to try our luck on fireflies. However, the klook itinerary said the meetup time was 6pm, but the tour guide did not tell us beforehand that it was changed to 7pm. We waited at the meet up point for 15minutes until they told us it was 7pm. Nonetheless, we were lucky to see a lot of fireflies along the trail.
