Reviews
this experience was nothing short of incredible! we learned about the history, watched the sumo wrestlers practice, participated in the actual exercises and had the most delicious lunch! I would highly recommend this. the tour staff was phenomenal! my son and I are going back again because he loved it so much!
The team at Kawasaki Beya are amazing!! We were not sure what to expect, as we had seen tours where people dressed in sumo suits and wrestled, and were not interested in that. However, this tour took you to a former operational Beya where bilingual interpreters talked about the history of sumo. Two retired wrestlers, Tsubomi and Nishiki, then demonstrated their training routine. Both were very entertaining, particularly when they asked for audience participation. The volunteers were walked through a short training session, then given the opportunity to wrestle one of the champions. Everyone then takes part in a traditional sumo meal, the chanko nabe, where they can ask questions of the sumos. We even did a craft activity and left with a gift. Both my teens (male and female) found it entertaining and it is high on our list of recommended activities for anyone visiting Tokyo.
It's a very interesting experience. You can learn many details about sumo wrestling and you can also participate in small practice activities. It's fun to eat sumo hotpot and chat with the wrestlers. Although the unit price is higher, it's good to support them.
INCREDIBLE! best tour so far ! such an incredible time! would do this again ! it was easy to meet up at the shin Kawasaki station !
WE HAD SO MUCH FUN! It was such an amazing experience, we learned so much, and learned to appreciate the hard work and stamina of our sumo teachers! the group was very supportive and the lunch was delicious. One of my favorite things we’ve done on our trip. There are additional souvenirs you can purchase, bring cash if you are interested! My favorite part was how personal and open to questions the sumos were and our guide, Charlie was so perfectly nerdy about sumo and easy to talk to, everyone was a joy to spend time with.
Incredible experience into sumo training, eating and living. Also a lot of time for questions, photos. Moreover, some beautiful and meaningful gifts from the wrestlers and guides. Very well organised.
We had an amazing time! The tour was informative and interactive. Our guides were fun and knowledgeable and the wrestlers were also very willing to answer any questions we had. I highly recommend to book!
Highly Recommend! Mahalo to Ken-san and the team. What a special experience for our family. Thank you to Nishiki-san and Kou-san who shared the world of sumo. We respect the professionalism, tradition, history and sportsmanship of sumo. We also appreciated the presentation from Ken-san, the special gifts, and the hands on lessons. We asked a lot of questions and appreciated their kindness. We also received a special meal and it was Delicious! P.S. thank you to Kou-san for cheering up my youngest with candy, jokes and teaching how to use chopsticks. With the large time zone he was a little tired. He made his day. Only suggestion for future customers to look at this picture of the station - Shin Kawasaki Gate. Google Maps might send you on an adventure. The tour guide will meet you there and walk you to a vehicle to drive to the stable. Don’t be late and plan for traffic if you go by taxi.
What a unique experience! Hands down the best sumo experience we've had! The guides are really professional and the sumo wrestlers entertaining. This is not your average sumo experience. It's more immersive than anything. It's an intimate event where you get to hangout with the sumo wrestlers and eat what they eat. The Chanko Nabe was really delicious and the souvenirs they give you to take home definitely carry sentimental values. If you want an intimate event where you can interact with sumo wrestlers directly in a non intimidating manner, this is your go-to event. If we ever come back to Tokyo, I would definitely train hard so I can test my abilities against the sumo wrestlers again!!! Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
definitely one for the books and worth every penny! this has been the highlight of my trip. i had so much fun.
