Not only will you be able to control the amount of sugar and tweak the recipes to get your perfect ratios, things you make on your own just taste better! These DIY bubble tea kits from Whale Tea are easy to follow and fail-proof.
    Here’s how our experience went.

    Brewing the tea

Take a pack of tea leaves of your choice and add it to a cup of 240ml of hot water. Our favourite was the Earl Grey tea, with slight hints of citrus and floral notes, this was perfect for an afternoon tea break.
If you prefer subtle flavours, the Klook Exclusive Four Seasons tea was floral and fresh and is light enough to drink daily. The Roasted Oolong had a caramel-like aroma with hints of smokiness and creaminess behind.

Steep the tea leaves in hot water for 9-12 minutes depending on the type of tea leaf and then strain the tea leaves away. You can choose to let your teas steep longer if you prefer stronger flavours but careful not to let it sit too long as it may produce a bitter aftertaste.

Stir in the creamer and add a spoonful of sugar if desired. We preferred the natural taste of the tea and only added a small amount of sugar. A good gauge would be 8g of sugar for a 50% sweetness level.

    Preparing the pearls

If you chose set A which comes with 500g of uncooked pearls, you will need to cook these before you can eat them. Add the uncooked pearls into a pot of boiling water and let it cook for 30 mins, stirring occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of your pot.
Afterwhich, let it simmer for another 50 minutes, depending on how soft you’d like your pearls. Don’t forget to keep stirring!

Strain your pearls with water and transfer them to a container. Stir in 15g of sugar, we used brown sugar in this case but you can use any raw sugars.

Transfer them to your cup when you’re ready to serve!

    Assembling the drink

This is probably the easiest step of the whole process. Just fill your cups with your toppings, add a couple of blocks of ice and pour your tea over it.
#klooktip: If you want to be extra fancy, you can shake your tea with some ice in a cocktail shaker before serving it over ice or make tea flavoured ice cubes so that your tea does not get diluted.

Give it a quick stir and get slurping!
