Let’s go on a healthy snack trip through Japan with our review of the Healthy and Beauty Box!

    1. Fruit flavoured collagen-filled jelly - Okayama Prefecture

Using locally-grown fruits as the main source of its jelly’s refreshing flavour, the jelly sticks from Rareplant by GOHOBI are a popular snack amongst Japanese women! True to its name ‘GOHOBI’ which means ‘gift’ in Japanese, the snack comes in cute packaging that resembles more of a beauty product.

Being a collagen-based jelly, this snack has many health-boosting properties. Its flavour is filled with a distinct taste of peaches that is not overly sweet too!
Also giving back to the community, the snacks are made from damaged high-quality fruit from local farmers, which can’t be sold on the shelves, thus making sure these fruits are not wasted by being thrown away.

    2.  Hon Kuzu Mochi - Fukuoka Prefecture

Talk about healthy and delicious, everything that you get from this mochi snack is natural, with no added chemical thickeners and starch. Made with 100% Kuzu powder that highlights the sweetness of the Kuzu plant. Add the soybean flour and black molasses for an extra flavour boost!

    3. Kinako (roasted soybean flour) Gokabou - Tokyo Prefecture

Popular in Japan now, Kinako or roasted soybean flour is usually associated with Wagashi, a traditional type of Japanese confectionary. Traditionally, the Kinako Gokabou is made with ingredients including rice dumplings, starch syrup and Kinako.
This modern twist includes a filling of caramel chocolate, giving the snack an overall taste of roasted peanut butter! Besides being a great teatime snack, this treat is also very healthy, containing a good amount of protein and vitamin B.

    4. Kiyomi Orange Rice Flour Snack - Setouchi Prefecture

Take one bite of this rice flour snack and you wouldn’t believe that it was made with no sugar, butter, eggs or milk! Being a rare variety and one of the best varieties of oranges in Japan, the Macrobi Butter Sand boasts an intense natural flavour from the ‘Prince Kiyomi’ oranges.
The perfect snack for vegans or those looking to go on a diet, Macrobi Butter is a butter-like cream made from plant-based ingredients such as cocoa butter, coconut milk and yam without using dairy products!

    5. Macrobiotic Coconut & Lemon Granola - Kanagawa Prefecture

When it comes to snacks, you’ve got to be cautious because if it’s really good, you’ll finish it in an instant and feel guilty after. The Macrobiotic Coconut & Lemon Granola is one healthy option that we don’t mind binging on!
Handmade at an atelier in Hayama, Kanagawa Prefecture, these bite-sized granola balls come with a light lemon flavour, with bits of coconut mixed into the balls. This snack can be enjoyed as it is or together with soy milk or ice cream.
