    Air fryer recipes to try out at home

    Don’t have an oven? Have a huge fear of hot oil splashing at you whilst you cook? The air fryer is a convenient and fuss-free solution to all those problems plus it’s a healthier alternative to using oil! 
    We’ve put together some air fryer recipes for your stay home meals this circuit breaker. From DIY McDonald’s breakfast solutions and even local favourites like Ha Cheong Gai, get ready to get cooking! 

    1. Banana Bread

    Ingredients
    • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
    • 2 ripe bananas
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
    • 1/4 cup sour cream
    • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • 1 large egg
    • ½ cup chopped walnuts
    Preparation
    1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda.
    2. Place bananas in a medium bowl and mash until very smooth with a fork or potato masher.
    3. Whisk in sugar, oil, sour cream, vanilla, and egg, making sure all ingredients are completely smooth.
    4. Fold into dry ingredients until just combined. Don’t over-mix.
    5. Gently stir in walnuts if desired.
    6. Transfer the batter into a non-stick 6- 7” round baking pan and place the pan inside the air fryer basket.
    7. Bake at 310 degrees for 33 to 37 minutes, or until toothpick test in the middle of the bread is clean.
    8. Allow to cool in the baking pan on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes before removing.

    2. French Toast

    Ingredients
    • 12 slices Toast
    • 1 cup milk
    • 5 large eggs
    • 4 tbsp. butter, melted
    • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
    • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 tbsp. cinnamon
    • Maple syrup 
    • Bananas and blueberries (Optional)
    Preparation
    1. Slice each bread slice into thirds.
    2. In a bowl, add the milk, eggs, butter, and vanilla. Whisk until combined.
    3. In a separate bowl, add the cinnamon and sugar.
    4. Dip each breadstick quickly into the egg mixture.
    5. Sprinkle the sugar mixture onto both sides.
    6. Place into the air fryer basket and cook at 350°F for about 8 minutes or until just crispy.
    7. Remove from basket and allow to cool. Serve with maple syrup and fruits, if desired.

    3. Mcdonald’s Egg McMuffin

    Ingredients
    • 2 Eggs
    • 2 muffins
    • 2 slices bacon
    • 2 slices cheese
    Preparation
    1. Preheat air fryer to 400
    2. Using 2 lids from the top of a ball mason jar
    3. Place foil over the rack
    4. spray with cooking oil
    5. crack one egg in each jar lid
    6. place bacon on the rack
    7. cook for 5 minutes and flip the bacon
    8. continue cooking for another 5 minutes
    9. remove egg
    10. Place split muffin in the air fryer and toast for 5 minutes or until brown.
    11. Put a slice of cheese on the muffin, egg, and bacon.

    4. Vegetable chips

    Ingredients
    • 1 Zucchini
    • 1 Red Beet peeled
    • 1 large Carrot
    • 1 Sweet Potato peeled
    • 1/2 tsp Pepper
    • 1 tsp Salt
    • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
    • Pinch of Cumin
    You can also replace the vegetable with anything else you’d like - Kale, Spinach etc
    Preparation
    1. Using a mandolin slice veggies about 1/4 of an inch thin
    2. Place in a single layer in the air fryer at 356 degrees Fahrenheit
    3. Cook 15-18 minutes flipping halfway through
    4. Check frequently for doneness so they don’t burn
    5. Add veggie chips to a bowl and toss with seasoning

    5. Korean Fried Chicken

    Ingredients
    • 2 lbs chicken wings
    • ¾ cup corn starch
    • 1 tsp garlic powder
    • 1 tsp onion powder
    • ½ tsp salt
    Korean Air Fried Chicken Sauce
    • 2 Tbsp gochujang Korean chilli paste
    • 3 Tbsp honey
    • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
    • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
    • 1 tsp ginger minced
    • 1 tsp garlic minced
    • ½ tsp salt
    Preparation 
    1. Rinse and dry chicken wings with a paper towel. Place in a large bowl and season with garlic powder, onion powder, and ½ tsp salt.
    2. Cover chicken with corn starch and use kitchen tongs to stir, ensuring all chicken pieces are coated. Tap each piece of chicken on the side of the bowl (to remove excess starch) and place it in the air fryer basket.
    3. Close the basket and cook chicken wings at 390 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes, turning and rotating chicken about every 10 minutes.
    4. While the chicken is cooking, make the sauce.
    Korean Air Fried Chicken Sauce
    1. Add the sauce ingredients into a small saucepan over medium heat and whisk until combined. Bring the sauce to a boil and reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
    2. Once the chicken is done cooking, add sauce to the wings and toss to cover all wings.

    6. Roast Pork (Sao Rou)

    Ingredients
    • 800 g of pork belly
    • 1 tsp fine sea salt 
    • 1 tsp garlic salt 2 tsp five-spice powder 
    • 1 cube fermented beancurd lower garlic salt 
    • 1 tsp rosemary 
    • 1 tsp white pepper 
    • 1 tsp sugar
    •  Half a fresh lemon 
    Apple Sauce
    • 6 Granny Smith Apples – Peeled Cored and Sliced 
    • 2/3 cup Castor Sugar 
    • 100 ml apple cider vinegar
    • Juice of ½ Lemon
    Preparation
    1. Wash the belly pork and cut lines on the meat portion 
    2. Cook the pork belly thoroughly in water. 
    3. Remove from water and Pat dry any excess water from the pork belly.
    4. Let it air-dry in the open for 3 hours. 
    5. Score the skin with a knife and pricked as many holes using a fork. The more holes the better (for crispier skin). 
    6. Massage the dry rub into the meat area. Rub some lemon juice on the skin and followed by salt . 
    7. Preheat the air-fryer for 10 mins at 160 degree celsius. 
    8. Place the pork belly skin facing up into the airfryer. Air-fry for 160 degree celsius for 30 mins. 
    9. Remove, poke more holes and brush some rice wine vinegar on the skin. Air-fry for another 180 degree celsius for 30 mins. 
    Apple sauce
    Using low heat, cook sugar and vinegar into a saucepan until the sugar is dissolved. Add the apples and cook until tender. Puree then add lemon and set aside to cool.

    7. Lemon Garlic Salmon

    Ingredients
    • 4 6 oz salmon filets
    • 2 tbsp olive oil
    • 2 tsp garlic powder
    • 1 tsp sea salt
    • 1 tsp fresh cracked pepper
    • 1 lemon, sliced into thin rounds
    • 1 tsp lemon juice 
    • 2 tsp Italian herbs
    Preparation
    1. In a large bowl, drizzle lemon juice and olive oil over salmon and rub to make sure the salmon filets are evenly coated.
    2. Season generously with salt, pepper, and Italian herbs.
    3. Arrange salmon filets in air fryer basket, making sure they don’t touch too much (don"t overcrowd the basket, so air can move around salmon easily).
    4. Arrange lemon slices on and around salmon in the air fryer basket.
    5. Set air fryer to 400 degrees and cook for 10 minutes for salmon with a little bit of red in the middle.
    6. Cook for 12 minutes for salmon with no red in the middle, 14 for well-done salmon or thicker salmon filets.

    8. Prawn Paste Chicken Ha Cheong Gai

    Ingredients
    • 300 grams mid-joint chicken wings (or drumlettes)
    • 2 tbsp olive or vegetable oil
    Marinade (A)
    • 1 tbsp prawn/shrimp paste
    • 3/4 tsp sugar
    • 1 tsp sesame oil
    • 1 tsp ginger juice grate some ginger & squeeze the pulp
    • 1/2 tsp Shaoxing wine
    Preparation
    •  In a bowl, combine the marinade ingredients (A) until a paste is formed. Marinade chicken with the sauce for at least an hour or preferably overnight in the fridge.
    • Just before deep-frying, add cornflour to the marinade chicken. Stir to coat evenly, shaking off excess flour on the chicken.
    • Preheat air fryer at 180°C (356°F) for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, lightly brush chicken pieces with olive oil.
    • Arrange chicken one layer on the fryer basket and slide the basket into the air fryer. Set timer and air fry for 8 minutes. Pull out the tray, use tongs to turn chicken pieces over, and set the timer for another 7 minutes. Drain cooked chicken on paper towels before serving.

    9. Banana Fritters

    Ingredients
    • 3 medium bananas (cut each banana into 5  pieces)
    • 1/2 cup  flour
    • 3/4 cup panko
    • 2 egg whites
    • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
    • 1 tablespoon coconut sugar
    • 1 teaspoon turmeric
    Garnish
    • 1 tablespoon coconut sugar
    • freshly ground cinnamon to taste
    Preparation
    1. Set air-fryer to 250F.
    2. Chop up each banana into at least 5 pieces.
    3. Mix together panko, cinnamon, turmeric and 1 tablespoon of coconut sugar.
    4. Dip a banana piece into flour,  then egg white and then the panko mixture.  Repeat for the remaining bananas.
    5. Add a portion of the banana pieces to the air fryer bucket, careful not to crowd it.  Cook for about 10-12 minutes and gently shake the frying basket at the halfway mark.
    6. Spray the air-fried pieces with a little bit of coconut oil and garnish with coconut sugar and cinnamon.

    10. Bacon Egg Cups

    Ingredients
    • 4 Ramekins
    • 8 Back Bacon
    • 4 Large Eggs
    • Fresh Chives optional
    • Salt & Pepper
    Preparation
    1. Get the ramekins out and add the bacon around the sides and bottom of it. So that it overlaps in the same way as when you’re making a pastry over an apple pie.
    2. Crack an egg into the centre of each ramekin.
    3. Cook in the Airfryer for 180c for 13 minutes.
    4. Season with salt and pepper and fresh chives and then serve.
