About The Legends in Motion by The Artists Village - invisible City
invisible City is a 90-minute walking experience exploring the unrecorded cultural networks in (lost) artistic spaces, surfacing untold stories and forgotten histories in our ever-changing cityscape. Drawing inspiration from Italo Calvino’s novel ‘Invisible Cities’, this experience invites us to delve into the relationship between memory, place and desire.
Directed by interdisciplinary artist Sonia Kwek, every tour begins with meeting her as our guide at a map installation. Each week’s journey retraces two different sites, each featuring an artist’s response - one an older artist revisiting a place they once worked/gathered at, now gone; another a younger artist who has made work in pop-up spaces - reawakening vanished and liminal places in our city.
Our participating artists are Stephanie Dogfoot and Siew Guang Hong on 21 Aug, Noor Effendy Ibrahim and Nathanael Ng on 28 Aug, and Grace Kalaiselvi and Nurul Atiqah Zaidi on 4 Sep. The tour culminates at a mobile archive by Koh Nguang How, sharing artefacts from his extensive archival work, including moments of Singapore’s performance art history. Advisory: Some Mature Content

Reviews
Really enjoyed the walking tour led by director Sonia, who was knowledgeable and engaging. I found the tour easy to follow. Also, had the privilege of witnessing two performances or pop-up activations by artists Grace and Nurul Atiqah, as well as the history chat with Mr Koh at the end. I'd love to go to another walking tour like this and learn more about Singapore's art history that isn't taught in schools.
