Rent a car in Adelaide

Exploring Adelaide at Your Own Pace

Renting a car in Adelaide offers the freedom to explore the city's attractions on your own schedule. Drive to the Adelaide Hills, where you can visit the charming town of Hahndorf in under 30 minutes, or head to the famous Barossa Valley, just an hour's drive away, to indulge in some of Australia's best wines. With a rental car, you're not bound by public transport timetables, allowing you to discover hidden gems and take scenic routes at your leisure.

Vehicle Inspection is Key

Before you set off on your Adelaide adventure, thoroughly inspect the rental car for any pre-existing damage. Document any scratches, dents, or other defects and report them to the rental agency to prevent any misunderstandings when you return the vehicle. It's wise to take pictures or videos as proof. Familiarize yourself with the rental agreement, focusing on details like mileage allowances, fuel policies, insurance inclusions, extra charges, and driving area restrictions. Remember to refuel the car before returning it to sidestep additional refueling fees.

Child Safety Comes First

In Australia, child safety in vehicles is paramount. Children under seven years of age must be secured in an appropriate child restraint. Most Adelaide car rental services offer child seats, but it's advisable to confirm their availability and whether they will be pre-installed in your vehicle. Not having the correct child seat is not only unsafe but also against the law, so ensure this is arranged prior to your journey.

Avoiding Traffic Congestion

Adelaide's traffic is generally more manageable than larger cities, but it's still wise to avoid peak hours, typically between 7:30 am and 9:00 am, and 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm on weekdays. Plan your travel outside these times when possible to enjoy a smoother drive. Be mindful of the speed limits and traffic rules to ensure a pleasant driving experience.

Navigating with Ease

While Adelaide is easier to navigate than many larger cities, a rental car equipped with GPS navigation can be invaluable, especially if you're planning to explore the surrounding regions or are not familiar with the area. This technology can guide you to attractions like Glenelg Beach or the Mount Lofty Summit without the stress of getting lost or misinterpreting directions.

Convenient Pickup Locations

Adelaide offers several convenient locations to pick up your rental car, including Adelaide Airport and various spots throughout the city. Choose a pickup location that suits your travel plans best, whether you're arriving by air or staying in the city. Reputable car rental companies like Avis, Budget, and Thrifty have outlets at the airport and in the city, providing a range of vehicles to suit your needs.

Driving in Adelaide

In Adelaide, as in the rest of Australia, you'll be driving on the left side of the road. Road signs are typically clear and in English, making it easy for international visitors to navigate. Be cautious of the unique Australian road conditions, such as wildlife crossings in rural areas. Always adhere to the strict drink-driving laws, ensuring you have a sober driver at the wheel at all times.

Good experience would recommend. Very easy and efficient. Only thing is these new cars the more electronic they get the weirder they are to operate. Took a bit of getting used to but at no fault of the hiring company! Maybe a few pointers next time would be good (yes the car was that confusing!)
