Yup, you can take a two-hour drive and go island hopping in Cavite!

It’s a fantasy many of us daydream about: to escape to an idyllic, quiet beach, located not too far from the city. Yet in reality, beach trips near the metro often involve swarms of beach dwellers, screaming children, and polluted waters. But what if we told you there lies a hidden gem located just 2 hours away from the city?
Nestled in Maragondon, Cavite and tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Manila lies Patungan Beach—a public beach that rivals those of Batangas and Zambales. Chances are this might be the first time you heard of a tropical paradise located in Cavite.

    A Short Drive to Paradise

Home to about 200 families, Patungan Beach, Cavite has long been known as a fisherman's paradise where the abundance of food and livelihood are mainly dependent on its surrounding waters. The destination was once described by the locals as a remote location accessible only by boat or foot. Once the Nasugbu-Ternate highway and Kaybiang Tunnel were constructed, Patungan Beach and its barangay was eventually connected to the rest of the province.
Despite its development, the beach has remained an undiscovered secret to many. Yet recently, Patungan Beach has sparked the curiosity of those who like to veer off the beaten path. What attracts people to its beach? Clear waters, stunning neighboring islands, and jaw-dropping rock formations await you all in a matter of a two hour drive.

A Day of Beach Bumming and Island Hopping

While Patungan Beach Cove may not be your usual white sand beach destination, its waters remain ideal for swimming. The destination itself is also surrounded by scenic views of nearby hills, which make for great photos. Guests can choose to rent a cottage for a day of basking under the sun while enjoying fresh seafood dishes.
Other activities beach goers can expect to enjoy include fish feeding, cliff diving, bonfire, and videoke. Recently, island hopping has also become popular due to the clear waters of its neighboring islands.
With the guidance from locals, island hopping tours take you around nearby rock formations and the white beaches of Mugiw Island, Carabao Island and Crocodile Island all in one day. These islands offer pristine waters, friendly accommodations, and a charming vibe that will make you feel like you’re hours away from the city.

    Getting There

If you’re traveling by private vehicle, take the Coastal Road Expressway, stay on Cavitex Road then take the Centennial Road or the Antero Soriano Highway that connects you to the Nasugbu-Ternate Highway. Take a left to Kaybiang tunnel and keep going straight until you reach Patungan Beach Cove.

    COVID-19 Guidelines

Currently, Cavite is under modified general community quarantine. Since Manila is under GCQ (General Community Quarantine), Manila residents are allowed to freely enter the province but mandatory health declaration forms may be required at checkpoints and before getting to your accommodation. Wearing of face masks and face shields are also required at all times and social distancing must be observed all throughout your stay.
