Electronic Travel Authority
What is an eTA or Electronic Travel Authority? Normally, applying for a Canadian visitor visa involves a lot of documents, a higher fee, and a bit of a waiting period. But with the eTA system, eligible Filipinos can skip the traditional visa process entirely and use their old Canadian visitor visa or their current US non-immigrant visa.
Think of the eTA as your "Fast Pass" to Canada. It’s an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals traveling to Canada by air.
✅ Are you eligible?
Before you start packing your winter OOTDs, check if you check these boxes:
1. Past North America Travel
You must have held a Canadian visitor visa in the past 10 years OR currently hold a valid U.S. non-immigrant visa.
2. Limited to Air Travel
This only applies if you are flying into Canada. If you’re driving across the border from the US or arriving via a cruise ship, you’ll still need a regular visa.
💰 Why this is great for Filipinos:
1. Budget-Friendly For Travelers
The eTA costs only $7 CAD (around ₱300+). That’s literally the price of a couple of cups of coffee! ☕️
2. Processing Is Quick
Most applications are approved via email within minutes. No more waiting weeks for your passport to come back.
3. Long-Term Validity
Once approved, your eTA is valid for up to 5 years (or until your passport expires). You can fly in and out for short stays (up to 6 months at a time) as much as you like!
📝 How to apply (A Step-by-Step Guide)
1. Get your documents ready
You just need your valid passport, a credit/debit card, and an email address.
2. Head to the official site
Use the official Government of Canada website (don't get tricked by third-party sites!).
3. Accomplish the forms and pay
Enter your details, pay the $7 CAD fee, and hit submit.
4. Check your email regularly
Keep an eye out for that approval email. Once you get it, you’re good to go!
