What to expect

Just 1.5 hours from Hobart, Mount Field is one of Tasmania's oldest and most beautiful National Parks. Lush temperate rainforest, moody alpine moorland and cascading waterfalls await. Your tour guide leads you on the Three Falls Circuit walk: first to iconic Russell Falls in three perfect tiers, then continue to Horseshoe Falls and along the Tall Trees Trail where Swamp Gums stretch over 80 metres into the sky. Keen walkers can push on to Lady Barron Falls to complete the loop. Next, Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary: an expert-guided wildlife tour where you'll meet (and hand feed) Tasmania's most precious native animals. The day ends at the summit of kunanyi/Mount Wellington, 1,271 metres above Hobart. The views are breathtaking (if the icy air doesn't take your breath first!)

Review for: Mt. Field National Park, Bonorong Wildlife & Mt. Wellington summit

We had an unforgettable experience on our Mt Field, Wildlife, and Mt Wellington tour with our amazing guide, Clint! He was very punctual, friendly, and accommodating throughout the day. Along the drive, Clint shared lots of interesting stories and fun facts about Tasmania’s history, wildlife, and nature. We also visited Bonorong Sanctuary and got to meet the rescued wildlife — such a heartwarming experience! During our trek through Mt Field, Clint made sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying the beautiful scenery. When we reached Mt Wellington, the wind was super strong — we almost got blown away! But Clint handled everything so well and made sure we were safe and still had fun. You can really tell he loves what he does. Highly recommend this tour and Clint as your guide!

Trevor is a ✨GEM✨ in Tasmania. There were only 4 of us on board and that made the entire experience more personal. We started our tour to Mt Field, which has some of the most beautiful falls I have ever seen. Trevor talked a lot about the life in the rainforest, it was a very in depth experience to hear it from someone who is passionate about nature. I learned about trees I have never heard of and its connection with other countries which was very interesting. I enjoyed the Wildlife Sanctuary finally meeting the Tasmanian Devil and I appreciate the efforts and work they are doing here. Our last stop was the breathtaking look out of Mt Wellington. This left me speechless. Overall, I am very satisfied booking this tour, it makes everything worthwhile and I highly recommend this to friends and anyone who’d like to experience Tasmania on a different level.

It was a small group with 6pax for this tour. Our driver guide, Ben, was informative and brought us on a good hike to explore the waterfalls at Mt Field. It was a fun experience feeding kangaroos at the wildlife sanctuary and catching sight of other animals. The sight at Mt Wellington was fabulous, just be prepared to face the cold and strong wind up the mountain.

I enjoyed the whole trip. The trekking, the scenery, the sanctuary. I am especially pleased with how the guide explained things along the journey. However, the trip ended so much earlier than the expected itinerary. Maybe the guide should consider allowing more time at Bonorong and Mt Wellington.

our guide, Ian, was absolutely wonderful. he was friendly and knowledgable, making the whole trip very enjoyable. the day started at 7.30am where we were picked up, then headed to new norfolk for a bathroom break + to get our lunch (a cooler bag provided to put our food). The hike was lovely and Ian was very familiar with the route and with the nature around us. Bonorong wildlife was cute, we got to meet rescued animals, both native and non-native to Tassie. It was a shame that mount welington was extremely cloudy, but it was nice to experience the cold! tips for everyone: IT GETS COLD! not sure about summer but up the mountains the temperature does drop and it can get icy cold! even with gloves my fingers felt numb🫢 also, it is a forest, so the shoes you wear matters - it has to comfortable and it will get dirty! it was a great day anyway!

Good to know

  • The 6 kilometre Three Waterfalls Circuit is over reasonably easy terrain, with some sections featuring steep steps. You have the opportunity and time to complete 1 waterfall, 2 waterfalls, or the whole circuit depending on your sense of adventure on the day.
  • This tour includes a visit to the summit of Kunanyi/Mt. Wellington. This is 1291m above Hobart. It is often 10 degrees cooler at the summit, please bring a warm jacket with you today.
  • Food / drinks /snacks are not included in this day tour. You will have an opportunity to stop enroute to the National Park to purchase lunch/snacks to take along with you for your tour day. This stop is in a regional town at a local Bakery. The selection includes sandwiches, rolls, wraps etc. If you have special dietary requirements or prefer other choices, you may wish to come prepared with your own food of choice. Lunch is usually in a picnic area at Mt Field National Park.
  • Bring a large refillable water bottle, closed sturdy shoes for walking. We recommend runners, sneakers or hiking boots and sensible clothes for outdoor conditions. Warm layers are a great idea, waterproof rain jackets just in case.
  • Minimum age to travel is 8 years
