Guide

Huayan Temple is located in the city center of Datong. This temple was first built in the eighth year of Liao Qingning (1062 AD). In the Grand Hall of Huayan Temple, one can see the foundations from the Liao Dynasty, architecture from the Jin Dynasty, as well as statues from the Ming Dynasty and murals from the Qing Dynasty inside the hall. The Bojiajiaocang Hall in the temple is a Liao Dynasty building, and the Liao Dynasty statues within the hall are very precious. Behind the Bojiajiaocang Hall is a double-story pavilion-style scripture cabinet; the upper level is for placing Buddha statues and shrines, and the lower level stores Buddhist scriptures.
