- Shibaozhai is located in Shibao Town, Zhongxian County, Chongqing City. It was first built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty and underwent multiple expansions and renovations from the Kangxi to Tongzhi periods of the Qing Dynasty. Shibaozhai is a national key cultural relics protection unit, a national scenic spot, a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a Chinese Overseas Chinese International Cultural Exchange Base, a civilized tourism scenic spot in Chongqing, and one of the first historical gardens in Chongqing.
- Shibaozhai integrates natural and cultural landscapes. The architectural complex consists of six parts: the entrance road, the mountain gate, the stockade tower, Kuixing Pavilion, Tianzi Hall, and the mountain-descending plank road. The stockade tower is one of the existing multi-story穿斗式 (chuan-dou-shi, a type of timber frame structure) wooden buildings in China, showcasing the superb architectural achievements of ancient Chinese working people. It is a brilliant pearl of folk architecture in the south and enjoys a high reputation in the domestic and international tourism circles.
