What to expect
The Chang’an Imperial Banquet is a highly representative immersive imperial performance banquet in Xi’an, located in Zhengshang International, Weiyang District, adjacent to Grand City and the Administrative Center. It draws on the heritage of the thirteen ancient dynasties, integrating the spirit of the Qin and Han dynasties, the legends of the Silk Road, and the grandeur of the prosperous Tang Dynasty, to create a new experience of “one meal, one show, one dish, one history.” It is a must-visit cultural and culinary landmark in Xi’an. The entire experience centers around a 360° circular stage and panoramic screen, breaking the boundaries of traditional viewing and allowing for an unobstructed view from every angle. From the moment of entry, with palace lanterns brightly lit, maids welcoming guests, and ancient music filling the air, guests are instantly transported back a thousand years, becoming imperial VIPs, embarking on a banquet journey with solemn rituals. The spatial design replicates the palace regulations of the Tang Dynasty, with vermilion pillars, carved beam patterns, and flowing drapes, complemented by professional lighting and sound effects, exuding the grandeur of the prosperous Tang Dynasty with every breath. The performance connects historical脉络 (historical context) through seven acts of live drama, from the unification of the Great Qin and the struggles of Chu and Han, to Zhang Qian’s diplomatic missions and Silk Road trade, and then to the “Rainbow Skirt and Feathered Dress” and the “Ritual Music and Grand Chapters” of the prosperous Tang Dynasty, with classic historical scenes unfolding in succession. Professional actors perform with passion, their dances combining strength and grace, their singing melodious and grand. Famous scenes such as Xiang Zhuang’s sword dance, the “Rainbow Skirt and Feathered Dress,” and imperial court dances are brought to life up close, with actors moving among the tables and interacting closely, making the audience not just observers, but participants in history. The dishes follow the theme of “one dish, one act, one flavor, one story,” adopting the Tang Dynasty’s individual serving system, exquisite, meticulous, and full of ritual. The signature “Buddha Jumps Over the Wall” has a rich broth and abundant, fresh ingredients, showcasing delicacies from mountains and seas; the Chang’an Gourd Chicken, with its crispy skin and tender meat, is known as the “First Flavor of Chang’an”; the Yangguan Camel Hoof Soup is soft, glutinous, and fragrant, embodying the flavors of the Silk Road; there are also braised sea bream, black pepper beef, cheese-baked shrimp, special “paomo” (pita bread soaked in lamb soup), and other delicacies, balancing authentic Shaanxi flavors with northern and southern tastes. Each dish is served according to the plot’s progression, with food and performance synchronized, intoxicating both taste buds and senses.
