If you want to save up for your accommodation as well as shinkansen fee, you can opt to just get into a night bus. The travel time is 6 - 7 hrs and enough for you to get a good night sleep and wake up and you're on Tokyo.
the station was very easy to reached at Kyoto. it has a washroom where you can shower, change clothes, freshen up. The bus was clean, limited seats and theres a curtain between bus mates. you can recline the seats and as it is Japan, your luggages and other stuff are surely safe. there are stopovers and when I woke up, I was in Tokyo already!
The VIP Lounge was only a 5minute walk from Kyoto Station. also, they allow to leave your luggage if you're confirmed to have a booking. the bus however was not that comfortable for me. the seats weren't spacious enough for a 6ft person like me.
We took a ladies' car, all women. No need to worry about safety. The privacy cover is pink, very warm. The whole journey was very quiet and we had a good rest. The driver stopped the car every 2 hours to rest and go to the toilet. When we got off the car, we were given a card with a photo of the car so that we could find the car and get back. The driver was very polite. There were 2 seats in each row, and there was a curtain between the 2 seats. We didn't have to worry about being disturbed if we didn't know each other. It was very private. It was a very interesting experience, worth a try. We left Kyoto at 10:45 and slept very well. We arrived in Shinjuku at 5:50 at dawn. I will take it again in the future. It is highly recommended for traveling alone.
It was a smooth ride and very comfortable too with the overnight bus 🚐
The night bus is really good to go. The service at Kyoto VIP lounge is also very good with complementary coffee. The waiting room is with extension sockets for battery recharge. Good.
Cheaper transfer option from Kyoto to Tokyo. Chose 11:45 departe and arrived around 7am in Tokyo station. The trip was smooth that I only woke once when we had a stop and the next one was already in Tokyo. 😅
easy booking. need to print ticket at Kyoto VIP lounge. the lounge also comfortable. i took 2345H bus and arrived at tokyo at 0700H. bus seat is ok. the driver will announce when you can start lower down the seat. you cannot enjoy the view as the curtain cannot be open. got about 3 stops before you arrive tokyo.
I recently took the 4-seater sleeper bus from Kyoto VIP Lounge to Tokyo Station, and I must say that the experience was top-notch. The Kyoto VIP Lounge truly lived up to its name as the best choice for travelers. We arrived at the lounge three hours before our scheduled departure time, and it was well worth it. The lounge staff were welcoming, and they provided a comfortable and relaxing environment. There were complimentary drinks, cozy seats, and even free foot massage machines. They had ample power outlets to charge your devices, which was a huge convenience. The restroom facilities were clean and well-maintained, adding to the overall comfort of the lounge. While the announcements were in Japanese, they had a screen with information. Though it was also in Japanese, knowing your bus's scheduled departure time was all you really needed. I highly recommend Kyoto VIP Lounge for travelers taking the sleeper bus. It's a great place to unwind and prepare for your journey, and the added amenities make the experience even more enjoyable.
This bus only provides sockets. I accidentally left the charger in my luggage instead of my carry-on bag. I used Google Translate to tell the driver that I needed to find the charger in my luggage. He not only helped me open the luggage area, but I also searched for it. Even though I couldn't get it, they lent me the charger and cable. Thank you very much Charger Superman!
