Art of Stroke: Introduction to Traditional Chinese Calligraphy
- To introduce participants to the rich heritage and artistry of traditional Chinese calligraphy, fostering cultural appreciation and personal engagement with this ancient art form.
- Through hands-on workshops, demonstrations, and experiential activities, participants will gain a deeper understanding of Chinese calligraphy’s cultural significance and artistic techniques.
- Each participant will create an art piece and bring it home.
- All Chinese Calligraphy materials will be provided.
- Duration: 1.5 hours
- [For avoidance of doubt] As the calligraphy materials are loaned to the participants during the calligraphy workshop, participants can only bring back the written artwork. Other materials (eg brush, ink) will need to be returned.

- Introduction to Chinese Calligraphy: Main Chinese Calligraphy styles, character explanation and history of the selected word.
- Hands-On Demonstration: Live demonstrations by calligraphers, showcasing brush techniques, strokes, and character composition of the selected word.

Teacher Jie Jie was patient and friendly when giving personalised teaching on the basic calligraphy strokes. The environment was relaxing and comfortable as you practised alongside other students. It was a good starter to see if you want to further your interest in Chinese Calligraphy.

Calligraphy is not easy but it is fun and theres a lot to learn! Fret not as instructions are clear and theres good guidance to learn well. Even if you do not speak mandarin, there are nice instructors who can guide in english! The setting is comfortable and I look forward to the next session!
