Jinan Xiuyan: An immersive experience of a royal feast enjoyed by kings a thousand years ago
- Immersive ancient charm performances: The Xiuyan Hall can accommodate 108 people, recreating the scene of imperial banquets. The performances integrate Jinan culture, with the Confucius Worship Ceremony re-enacting the demeanor of a land of etiquette, and dances interpreting stories of Li Qingzhao, Xia Yuhe, and others. As actors dance to the guzheng and pipa, with sleeves fluttering, guests feel as if they have traveled through a thousand years, immersed in a fantasy world where history and art intertwine.
- All-round ancient style experience: This place offers exquisite Hanfu with meticulous designs from various dynasties. Professional makeup artists will also create exclusive ancient-style makeup and pair it with delicate hair accessories based on the chosen Hanfu and personal characteristics, allowing guests to transform into classical beauties and experience the charm of Hanfu immersively.
- Ingenious new Lu cuisine: The Spring Water Tai'an Tofu Soup is fresh and refreshing, the slow-cooked beef is tender and mellow, the brocade shrimp balls have a rich texture, the black truffle abalone rice is luxurious and delicious, and there are also specialty dishes like Kongfu Yitanxiang and Qilu Gedatang, paired with exquisite pastries and refreshing yogurt. Each dish carries tradition and innovation, leaving an endless aftertaste.
- Integration of banquet, food, ritual, and music: Jinan Xiuyan perfectly blends banqueting with ritual and music, creating a banquet food theater. With each dish served, there is a wonderful performance to match, with dances, Liuzi opera, and folk music taking turns. Accompanied by vivid explanations, guests not only savor the food but also gain a deep understanding of the cultural stories behind the dishes, appreciating the aesthetics of traditional Chinese banquets and the unique charm of Qilu etiquette through a dual enjoyment of sight and taste.
What to expect
Stepping into Jinan Xiuyan is like entering a corridor of time. There is a dedicated costume room displaying Hanfu in strict styles from various dynasties, from the elegant and beautiful Tang-style ruqun to the dignified and grand Ming-style mamianqun, everything is available. After changing, professional makeup artists will meticulously create matching makeup and hair accessories based on the clothing style and the customer’s face shape and temperament. From lightly brushed eyebrows to floral adornments, from exquisite hair buns to pearl and jade accessories, every detail exudes ancient charm, allowing customers to radiate classical elegance and dignity in every gesture, truly achieving a “one-second穿越” (time travel). The performances closely adhere to Jinan’s profound cultural heritage. Solemn sacrificial performances recreate the ceremony of the Confucius worship, showcasing the etiquette and customs of the Qilu region to the fullest. Anecdotes of famous figures such as Li Qingzhao and Xia Yuhe are interpreted through dance, conveying the romance and depth of history through the dancers’ flowing robes and expressive gazes. In addition, there are traditional instrumental performances such as guzheng, pipa, and dizi, as well as wonderful programs like Shandong’s national intangible cultural heritage, Liuzi Opera, bringing guests a comprehensive artistic enjoyment from auditory to visual. Adhering to the concept of “eating seasonally,” fresh ingredients are purchased daily to create unique “new imperial dishes.” Quanshui Tai’an Tofu Soup, brewed with sweet Jinan spring water, has tender tofu and delicious broth, making every bite seem to taste the spiritual beauty of Jinan. Slow-cooked beef is soft and delicious, with warm meat that melts in your mouth, showcasing the exquisite culinary skills of Shandong cuisine. Black truffle abalone with rice combines Jiaodong abalone with black truffles; although the rice is firm, the abalone is springy and delicious, a perfect blend of tradition and innovation. Jinan Xiuyan is not just a simple dining place; it is a banquet and gourmet theater that integrates banquets, food, rituals, and music. Here, each dish is accompanied by a corresponding wonderful performance. Before the dishes are served, guests will first enjoy related dances, operas, or folk music performances, and through the narration, they will gain a deeper understanding of the origin and cultural significance of the dishes, experiencing the unique charm of traditional Chinese banquet aesthetics and Qilu etiquette.
