What to expect
Join us for a one-day in-depth exploration of Miyazaki Prefecture in Kyushu! Discover the mythical boat tour secret of Takachiho Gorge, then ride a retro mini-train through a forest fairy tale – natural wonders and ancient legends, all in one day. No matter where you come from, at this moment, we are all travelers of the world. Morning · Cloud Walk and Volcanic Wonders 8:00 AM: Gather at Fukuoka Station to begin your fantastic journey. We can delve deep into Takachiho Gorge, a sacred place in Japanese mythology where “the grandson of the sun goddess descended.” As you walk along the gorge trail, towering columnar jointed rock walls and emerald green streams form a natural masterpiece. The 17-meter-high Manai Falls cascades down from the cliff, and amidst the mist, you can almost hear the whispers of the gods. You can choose to embark on a boat tour experience in the gorge. Gently paddle a wooden boat into the depths of the gorge, reach out to touch the splashing water from the waterfall, and feel the cool mist on your face. At this moment, nature and legend intertwine. Note ⚠️: The Takachiho boat tour requires 2-3 people per boat. Solo travelers will share a boat with other group members. In case of unforeseen circumstances leading to the cancellation of the boat tour, a refund of 2000 JPY per person will be issued. Afternoon · Forest Railway and Power Spot Secrets Hop on the retro Takachiho Mini-Train for a fairy-tale forest journey. The train winds through lush valleys, and the spring-exclusive “Cherry Blossom Line” will take you through a tunnel of pink flowers. The pastoral scenery outside the window flows like a movie. We recommend sitting by the window to capture the secret light and shadows along the way. (Optional activity: Challenge the Amano Iwato Railway Grand Super Cart, overlooking the entire gorge from a track suspended 105 meters high. Excitement and beauty coexist, at your own expense.) Amano Iwato Shrine is an ancient shrine located in Takachiho Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. It is famous as the setting for the Japanese myth “Amano Iwato Myth” and is one of the top power spots in the area. Return to Fukuoka Station for disbandment, concluding a fulfilling day. On the way back, browse through the photos on your camera – the emerald waters of the gorge, the high-altitude railway, and cloud silhouettes ☁️ – and savor the unique charm of Kyushu, where nature and culture intertwine.

Reviews
The place was beautiful and definitely worth the money. Takachiho was an amazing experience and I really enjoyed the scenery. However, the tour guide was a bit unfriendly, and although the tour mentioned English/Chinese support, things were not explained clearly to us which caused some confusion. There was also a misunderstanding about contacting me. But overall, the trip itself was still worth it because the place was so beautiful.😊
To get to this destination, you really need to take a day tour trip. If you calculate it, it's actually cheaper than going by yourself. Overall, joining a day trip here was fun, and the destinations matched the itinerary. The tour guide spoke English and Mandarin. Everything ran on time and was well-organized. The guide also helped with food recommendations, etc. This destination is already quite popular, but less crowded compared to the city. Plus, you can meet people from other countries, which is fun.
Flew in just for this excursion and it didn’t disappoint. Our guide, Kevin, was fun and witty. He explained every step of the trip in detail and gave us enough time to explore everything on our own. The shrine, railway, and gorge were were beautiful. However, be prepared for a hike during your visit at the gorge! 100% recommend.
This was my first time joining a one-day tour, and it was a great experience! The day before, I received an email with detailed meeting information. The three-hour drive included a restroom break. Our guide, Selina, spoke Mandarin, English, and Japanese, which was very convenient. The mini-train experience was good (worth the extra cost), and boating in Takachiho Gorge was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it rained heavily that day. When Selina handed us the boat tickets, she reminded us that it was starting to rain and asked if we needed to buy raincoats. When we left after the activity, it was pouring rain at parking lot #3 where we boarded the tour bus. Selina held an umbrella for each of us as we got on the bus to prevent us from getting wet, even though she herself got soaked. She was truly thoughtful and wonderful. The driver was also very young and polite, and he drove very smoothly. Although the weather wasn't great this time, the itinerary, driver, and guide were all excellent, making my experience very enjoyable! 😁
Our tour guide, Yang Meng, was very kind and excellent. This was my second experience with a Klook one-day tour. This particular group had 37 people, so we traveled in a large tour bus, though the seats were a bit small. Each person's seat had a cup holder. Rowing in Takachiho was genuinely fun, but we couldn't choose our rowing time slot. Rowing does require some skill, but if you really can't manage, the staff on-site will come over in a boat to assist you a bit. The rowing session is only thirty minutes, so it's quite challenging to row all the way to the waterfall, haha! I found the Takachiho scenic train to be rather ordinary; it's optional and not cheap at 2300 JPY per person. Finally, we visited Amano Iwato Shrine, which involved some walking and sightseeing. Overall, it was quite interesting, but the drive from Fukuoka to Takachiho alone takes three hours. We departed at 8 AM, and due to rain and traffic, the tour officially ended at 7:10 PM. Perfect!
Our guide, Jimmy Liu, was a seasoned tour guide who made the trip very efficient and enjoyable. He gave valuable tips and information, even a small gift, that made our trip all the more fulfilling. The sceneries themselves were very beautiful, if not a bit too crowded at times (we went on a Sunday) 💯% recommend.
Driver Whatsapped us the day before to confirm our day tour. Not difficult to navigate the meetup location at Kumamoto Station. Safe and smooth driving to all destinations. Driver was attentive and shared brief but useful insights of each attraction. Only gripe is the short duration at each attraction, the tour could have been more enjoyable if they lengthened the time spent at the Takachiho Gorge.
Despite the hot weather we were able to enjoy this beautiful scenery. Thank you to our tour guide, Hedy for making it bearable. She assisted us alot and gifted us with precious goodluck charms. I would recommend this booking the next time I'll visit with my family and friends! thank you, Hedy!!!
This pack is a blessing. The places to visit are quite far from one another and either you need a car or take several days. An absolute must if you are interested in mythology and you appreciate stunning mountain scenery. Our guide was really the sweetest and shared a lot about nice spots in Fukuoka and during the trip.
The itinerary is packed and tight, so it's essential to be on time. Our first stop today was the Takachiho miniature train, and if we weren't on time for the meetup, we'd have to wait 40 minutes! (I guess we probably wouldn't get a seat, as it would affect subsequent attractions.) Luckily, everyone in our group was quite punctual. The miniature train was so unique; we enjoyed the scenery on both sides, and it even stopped in the middle to let us stand up and take photos! Our guide, Hedy, introduced lunch options near Amano Iwato Shrine, so we wouldn't go hungry in between. The highlight of the trip was the Takachiho boat ride. The on-site boat experience was already sold out, so I highly recommend choosing the option that includes the boat ride. It was so much fun, and seeing things from the water up gave a completely different perspective! The driver drove very smoothly and safely; the ride was steady the whole way. Hedy was very attentive and enthusiastic, providing explanations in both English and Chinese. It was a great trip!
