Reviews
I booked a private Japanese tour for myself and my father. There was an option to register with LINE as a means of contact, so I registered with that. However, the tour operator contacted me and said that we would proceed with WeChat, so WeChat is probably the only way to contact them. Also, the communication via WeChat was in English (although I guess I could have written in Japanese). I heard that the Terracotta Army Museum is very crowded and it's better to start early, so I asked them to pick us up at 8:00 AM so that we could enter the museum at 9:00 AM. On the day of the tour, the guide was standing at the designated meeting place with a sign, so it wasn't difficult to meet up with them. It takes about an hour each way by car from the hotel in Xi'an to the Terracotta Army. The guide provided various information in the car, so even though the tour was about 5 hours in total, we were constantly receiving information for 3 to 4 hours. It was very informative. After leaving the Terracotta Army Museum, it was lunchtime, so I asked for a recommendation for a lunch restaurant (including in Xi'an). The guide didn't give me a specific restaurant name, but said that they would take us to a recommended place, so we followed them. We arrived at a place about a 10-minute walk from the Terracotta Army Museum (on the way to the parking lot. It's about a 15-20 minute walk from the museum to the parking lot. It's quite far). At the restaurant, we enjoyed the "Biang Biang noodles," a specialty of Shaanxi Province. While we were waiting for our food, other people who appeared to be tour customers were brought to the restaurant by their guides, so maybe the restaurant has some kind of deal with the tour companies. When we were finishing our meal, the guide came to our table to pick us up and take us to the designated drop-off point. During the car ride, the guide continued to tell us various things about history and trivia. When I booked the tour, I thought it was a bit expensive, but considering how difficult it is to get from the hotel to the Terracotta Army and what I gained from the tour, I think it was reasonable.
Our guide was Derek who was great. Very knowledgeable and able to help us navigate through busy crowds at the Terracotta Warriors museum. He also had lots of great recommendations of things to do after. Highly recommended.
Phoenix was a wonderful guide! She shared great insights about the terracotta warriors. She also had great tips for our stay in Xi’An. Highly recommend getting Phoenix as your guide if possible!
