Xiamen

The consultant was patient and recommended a lot of tours that I wouldn’t be able to find on common website.

My guide, 董师傅, is very helpful, knowledgeable and humorous too. 董师傅 is also a very safe driver and shared with us about some facts of Xiamen, the plants, the buildings etc while on the way to see the tulou. The car is very spacious and comfortable. We went to a few tuluo and the local guides for the different tulou were very accommodating, and very good at taking pictures for us too. The pace is just nice, there isn't any hardselling for any products, just purely clear explanation on the history and facts about the tulou. Also, I had left my personal belongings in 董师傅 car and he was very kind to make a big detour and sent it back to me. I was very grateful for that.

This tour includes bus transportation, which is convenient for independent travelers since it's a group tour that picks you up from your hotel. It saves you the trouble of planning routes and transferring between transportation methods yourself. Plus, the travel time is acceptable since we mainly use the highway. Lunch is also arranged on the way (not exquisite, but plentiful). The tour guide on the bus is friendly and will try to sell products, but it's not compulsory. After arriving at the Tulou, a local guide will lead the tour. Taiwanese tourists have a great advantage... because Taiwanese and Xiamen dialects are both part of the Minnan language family, the difference in accent is very small, meaning there's no communication barrier. The Tulou residents also take special care of Taiwanese tourists. Special thanks to the grandma at Huaiyuan Building, who even helped me take a panoramic photo of the Tulou from the third floor. Of course, this is on the condition that you can speak Taiwanese. Overall, this tour was very rich and a great experience. Choosing the right tour avoids any unpleasant surprises.

Our guide, Ms. Xie, was very enthusiastic, explained everything clearly, and helped us tour efficiently. While the island itself wasn't particularly noteworthy and we got tired from walking, the beautiful buildings, scenery, and delicious food more than made up for it. I would like to visit this island again when I come back to Xiamen. Thank you for everything.

I’m truly grateful to have met such a friendly and caring driver. He always made sure we were safe, kept us updated on locations and timing, and gave thoughtful introductions at every stop, which meant a lot, especially when I was traveling alone. He also recommended great tourist spots and restaurants with reasonable prices and delicious food. We were also fortunate to have a supportive and encouraging tour guide, who shared detailed historical insights and went above and beyond by helping every tourist take individual photos at each spot. I felt totally spoiled by her, no need for a photographer at all on this trip! Overall, I’m thankful for how well everything was planned and would highly recommend this trip to anyone considering it.

Wendy started contacting me months in advance with Whatsapp and Wechat. Few days before the tour date, Wendy contacted me again confirming we will be there. The day before the tour, Wendy created a group chat including the drive / tour guide Xu, and confirmed our hotel location. Xu confirmed the time he will pick-us up. Xu pickus up on time and to our surprise it was only the 2 of us in the big MPV for 6 - a small group tour become a private tour. We greatly appreciate that the tour operator did not cancel this tour. Xu was very professional, knowledgeable, and great driving skill, attentive to our request. The tour was fastantic with Xu knowing the places and local well. The tour ended a bit early then expected, and we are happy with that so we have a bit of time in the evening to look at Xiamen. This time, I participated in the Zhangzhou Tulou and Yunshuiyao one-day tour, and everything went smoothly from the contact before the trip to the end. The tour guide Zhang Hui was enthusiastic and professional 🤗, took good care of the group members 😀, and the driver had first-class driving skills 👍. This trip is worth the price 😁😁

The afternoon tea was just going to a tea shop for tea, without any desserts. The staff heavily promoted their tea leaves. The mountain and sea trail was just a quick photo op at the park on top of the spiral staircase, and we had to go up there ourselves – the guide didn't even go up the trail. Gulangyu Island has become very commercialized and overcrowded!
