Fantastic 5.0
It's definitely worth going; everyone should try it at least once, especially the sand dunes and Uradome Coast.

First of all, thank you to our tour leader, Hua Hua, and our bus driver for this wonderful trip to Tottori! The bus was comfortable, spacious, and air-conditioned, making the journey very pleasant. Hua Hua explained everything clearly in both English and Chinese, so everyone could follow along. We had a short restroom break on the way there and back. At the dunes, we had about 3 hours of free time. The scenery was breathtaking, but bring an umbrella because there is almost no shade! The museum was amazing, and since the theme changes every year, it’s always worth visiting. My favorite part was picking and eating fresh pears—they were delicious! The atmosphere was so friendly and relaxing. Hua Hua ended the trip with kind words and even sang for us. Thank you for making this an unforgettable experience. I hope your dreams come true!

The JR Kansai Wide Area Pass for five days is very convenient. You can even take the Shinkansen from Osaka to Okayama. It's even more cost-effective when paired with local sightseeing passes. This time, I chose discounts for three facilities in Tottori. The Sand Dune Museum is a must-visit attraction, and the scenery along the Uradome Coast by boat is beautiful (though it was cloudy that day, so the water wasn't as vibrant). For my last stop, I dined at Kan-ichi in Kami Town. The food was surprisingly delicious, and the prices were reasonable with a great atmosphere. Even on a weekday, there were many customers, so a bit of a wait was necessary.

What to know before visiting Tottori

Top experiences overview

Tottori draws most bookings for Attraction passes, followed by guided Tours and a smaller share for Outdoor & sports activities. Demand builds through spring and peaks in May, with a steep drop in January before it climbs again into the summer.

Activities by traveller type

Families often choose Attraction passes, which make visiting several local sights straightforward and budget-friendly for groups with children. Couples tend to enjoy Tours for their mix of local insight and relaxed pacing, making them good for discovery and shared experiences. Solo travellers and small groups looking for more active options can look to Outdoor & sports activities for a pricier, adventure-focused way to explore the area.

What travellers from Malaysia book ahead

Most things in Tottori offer flexibility for short-notice plans, since typical bookings sit around 12 days ahead, but the earliest planners still reserve roughly 28 days out. Booking ahead matters most around May, when demand peaks and advance planning helps secure popular passes and guided tours.

Category comparison

Attraction passes are the easiest way in and present the widest range of price points, from budget-leaning options up to premium multi-attraction choices, so they suit a broad mix of travellers. Tours sit at a mid-range level and are great for those who want guided context without the highest price tag. Outdoor & sports activities are the priciest on average and appeal to travellers after active or bespoke experiences rather than budget sightseeing.
