What to expect

Known as the jewel of Sintra, the 19th-century Romanticist palace crowns a hilltop with vibrant red and yellow façades, blending Moorish, Gothic, and Renaissance styles. Inside, discover ornately decorated rooms and breathtaking views.

Surrounding it, the Park of Pena is a lush forest filled with exotic trees, winding paths, lakes, and scenic viewpoints. Classified as a National Monument in 1910 and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995, it stands as the most important site in Sintra’s cultural landscape. Since 2020, the site also forms part of the European Route of Historic Gardens, offering a truly magical and historic experience.

With a single ticket, visitors can explore both the stunning Pena Palace and its enchanting park, where fairy-tale architecture meets dreamlike landscapes in the heart of Sintra.

There is no need to print tickets and you can even use the Free WiFi to access the tickets at the checkpoints even if you do not have your own data network.

Very interesting castle with different parts to explore. Best to allocate at least 1.5-2 hours if you do not want to rush. Furthermore, based on the time slot you choose, take note that you still need to travel up to the main entrance from Sintra center via tuk tuk or hike, so make sure you allocate another 20-30 mins for it depending where you start. The entrance does not begin at the bottom of the hill. If you have more time, take the time to explore the park on your way down after the castle.

The app is very convenient to use, but it's cheaper to buy tickets on the official website (€20 for the palace + €10 for the park). You can also select time slots, but the official website doesn't accept Lisbon Card discounts; you can only get those by buying tickets on-site, but you'll have to queue. Go early in the morning or just before closing to avoid the crowds. On the official website, you can also purchase a shuttle from the park entrance to the palace entrance, as there's a distance between the park ticket office and the palace entrance.

I booked a ticket for the 10:30am train, took the 8:45am train in the morning, transferred to bus 434, and then took the Pena Palace shuttle bus to arrive at the ticket gate at exactly 10:25. If possible, it is recommended to take the 8:10 train, so that you can have a more enjoyable trip! It is recommended to book a shuttle bus to the Pena Palace. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the park entrance to the ticket gate!

beautiful palace but I couldn’t enter the inside coz I missed out my timing due to another attraction. anyways, the queue was insane even if you have tix. lol but ok the exterior itself is gorgeous so honestly I should just buy the park one instead of the interior.

I was accidentally late, but there's probably a 30-minute grace period! However, the tuk-tuk driver said it's okay to be late. Just show the driver your ticket directly and don't mention being accidentally late or that the train was delayed! The staff will generally let you in directly, at least if there aren't too many people. I followed the tuk-tuk driver's advice and successfully entered.

Purchasing Sintra tickets through Klook is convenient; you can directly scan the barcode on your voucher for entry. However, remember the voucher states "There is no delay tolerance," so arrive early to queue for entry. The Google Maps distance from the park entrance to Pena Palace is a 10-minute walk, but it's actually a *steep hill*, so allow extra time to walk there at a leisurely pace. There's also a shuttle bus in the park that runs every 15 minutes (the bus takes 3 minutes to reach Pena Palace). However, the Klook ticket doesn't include the bus, so if you want to ride it, remember to buy a ticket at the park entrance first. Otherwise, even if you've waited in line and are about to board, you'll be turned away (they only accept it if you go back to buy a ticket and rejoin the line; you can't pay on the bus). So, manage your time well, or you might end up sprinting up the steep hill like I did, fearing you'd be late and denied entry. But, I actually bought an 11:00 AM ticket, and after running up, I realized they hadn't even started letting the 11:00 AM group in yet. Everyone with 11:00 AM tickets was still outside waiting to enter. So, if you're feeling bold, you might be able to arrive at the palace gate by 11:30 AM (but this might be because it was a holiday and more crowded...). Anyway, to be safe, allow plenty of extra time!

As everyone had advised, provide for enough time to get to the entry into the Palace ( which is about 30min walk from vehicle drop off point) as printed in your Klook e-ticket. You will not regret making the effort to get here :-)
