I was fortunate to meet Mr. Huang, a local living dictionary, who has been studying and inheriting Penang's history and culture for more than 20 years. He learned about the development and rule during the British colonial period, the love and hatred between Chinese immigrants in Fujian (Zhangzhou-Haishan Society, Quanzhou-Xingshi Bridge area) and Guangdong (Guangzhou-Yee Hing Society, Chaozhou), how they could donate money to build temples because of their beliefs, and fight over territory. He also learned about the origins of Penang's various neighborhoods, and the public call for submissions for iron paintings after obtaining the intangible cultural heritage in 2008. In 2012, a Lithuanian painter left a mural by accident, which opened up the art of murals, and came back to add color 12 years later. These are just a small part of the story. If you like to travel in depth, it is recommended to prepare a pair of good shoes, do a good job of sun protection, and follow Mr. Huang's story journey to discover the food and surprises behind every corner.
The perfect tour! Even though I reserved wrong the tour in mandarin, the guide and a colleague did a "10 plus" experience, given us all the historical and cultural facts of Georgetown. I always pick a tour in my travels and this is one of the best I've ever had.
Our tour guide, Mr. Huang, was extremely knowledgeable about Penang's history and effectively used maps to give us a clear understanding of the city streets. He even recommended a local Cantonese restaurant and helped us order, allowing us to savor authentic local cuisine. A highly worthwhile walking tour!
Our guide, Mr. Wong, was very passionate and helped us understand Penang's cultural fusion and development through its architecture. We're so glad we joined this tour, which gave us a better understanding of the city for the rest of our trip. If you're interested in history and culture, this tour is perfect for you! During the tour, Mr. Wong tries his best to find shady spots for explanations, but it can still get very hot on sunny days, so be sure to protect yourself from the sun. The snacks that Mr. Wong recommended along the way were all delicious, so be sure to try them!
Teacher Huang and Teacher Tseng explained everything thoroughly, like local historians. If you want to learn about the local Chinese history, I highly recommend this trip.
Teacher Huang was very friendly and professional. He was waiting at the meeting place very early in the morning in case we couldn't find it.
